today i was trucking along on the bike path and i get behind this guy on a binachi in full local team gear. he's running '04 dura ace with ksyriums, he's got calves the size of my thighs, and thighs the size of my waist. bottom line, he's a badass. i decide to play tag-along, not wheelsucking, just a hang back about 20 feet and keep up for as long as i can. i wound up keeping up with him the whole way, and even passed him halfway to where i turned off. it was soo great, even though i'm sure the guy was putting in like, 50% effort and i was at about 100% when i passed him, only because of the horrific headwind.

anyway, the point i'm driving at, is, while i was tagging along behind him, my bike seemed to just float underneath me. everything because effortless, intuitive and i was truly "one" with the bike. i've felt this a few times in the past while on my road bike, and practically every time i'm out on one of the trackies. i dunno...it's just nice, i guess, because i usually feel like my bike is riding on tennis ball fuzz or something.

MMM! that's all. i'm excited. this was probably my last free weekday afternoon for a while, and i'm glad i put it to good use. tomorrow, i have to go work in a warehouse for a bike shop. hehehehehe....."have to..." :D :D :D

so nice when your bike feels like an appendage,
as you said, one with the bike
seems like having a carrot hanging out front of ya makes it easier to push, eh? :D

i can generally push whenever i want to. i do spontaneous, out of the saddle sprints that can go on for about a half a mile, maybe more, but not too much more. but yeah, i knew the guy was probably just out for a leisure ride or something...but it was still fun, and it gave me something to chase. i wish i would've had the breath to talk to him when i passed. i passed right as we cut into a parking lot that was into the wind for a good 50 yards, and then a steep, short hill up into another parking lot. i really kinda wore myself out on the little hill, but recovered across the parking lot and down the hill on the other side and had enough to push a pretty quick pace back to my turn-off.

i know that if i hadn't been behind the guy, i probably wouldn't have been able to tune out the pain that my legs were probably feeling. at any rate, it felt good, and that guy was hard core...his calves were friggen HUUGE!!!

Hehe I know the feeling, I was chasing around a guy on a litespeed for a while. My girlfriend says it's like when the tiny dogs meet the big dogs. The smaller dogs would start barking and the big ones just kind of stare.

about mid-way through the parking lot, i realised i was sprinting and i knew the hill was coming up and i was just like "that...was stupid. why did i do that? now i'm gonna choke on the hill."

hehe...
