Dirty, wet fun for all!

Reinvigorated by the promise that someone would be there this morning, I rolled out of bed at 5:00 after five hours of sleep, packed up a combination of dry and still-wet clothes and got on the road with thoughts of riding Canada through Woodside, up OLH, and down 35 & 84 to the start.

I parked at the end of Canada only to notice that the wind was gusting and the rain was falling. So I decided to cut that part of the ride short. Parked near the Whiskey Hill intersection, and took Mountain Home to OLH. The further up I went, the more the rain poured. I didn't think I was going to make it to the top and back down in time, so I did something I've never done before: Descended OLH. In the rain. With hilariously ineffective brakes. May it never be spoken of.

Back at the start, Ms I and Jammen arrive just on time, and to my shock, bikingshearer drives up a few minutes later. And then more people show up. And more. And more. And... well, that's it. Not a bad turnout for a cancelled ride!

We never did find Woodside Bakery, so we settled for some joint called W odsi e Bakery, which fit the bill well enough.

They look like (semi)normal, upstanding citizens from afar, but filthy closeups reveal their insanity:

As do their fancy, yet disgusting machinery nearby:

Well, it was a great ride, and it was great to see everyone. Hopefully rides won't be so hastily cancelled at the first sign of clouds in the future. :P

All tandems must sport full fenders in wet weather. :pDon't forget the mudflaps!

Reclining lady optional.

After much careful consideration, I've decided that there might very well be a reason that you don't see many white bikes.

Keep in mind that this is with fenders!

.....Making fun of bigbossman when he wasn't there to defend himself was especially fun.

Tomorrow, the turkeys will pay for your insolence.

BTW after failing miserably at a little spot of wheel-sucking down Portola, I think we need a new rule for BF group rides.

All tandems must sport full fenders in wet weather. :p

Heh, 'sorry, yeah, it was pretty miserable for everyone. :p The little bit I was behind you on Alpine I had to keep switching from side to side in the lane because your roostertail was like a spigot straight into my face, lol. It probably doesn't help that the rear tire is something like a 32mm, either.

I promise we'll only bring the tandem out on dry rides from here on out. :)

Nah, I was just teasing. Obviously I could have done with some fenders too.

It was great to ride with you! :)

OK, so I have to ask you folks that were on the ride today, if I went and stuck fakey facial hair on my stoker, would he not remind you of a certain someone who was on today's ride? :innocent:

Obviously I could have done with some fenders too.*picks grit out of his teeth* What? No! :P

Yours was probably the second-most prolific water-spewing tire I've been behind in the last two days. Though I hear mine is pretty bad, even with a fender.

VICTORY!

x, no argument there! Your butt was probably drier, too. I think we picked up 10 #s alone in waterlogged gear.

I bet. At one point today, it occurred to me that on a tandem, the stoker makes a very effective rear fender for the captain.

Sssshhhhh, don't say that too loudly, there're other stokers on these forums!

Fenders + rain cape FTW. No streak o' crud up my back, no soaked and gritty front or feet, no water-logged chamois. I do need to add a mudflap to the front, as the drivetrain got cruddier than it needed to. But otherwise, the Bikingshearer Anti-Rain System (patent pending) worked pretty darn well.

Okay, so I looked like Big Bird with a big yellow parachute out there, but since I've never exactly been a fashion plate, what do I care? :p

Sadly I have an extra flap on the back of my rain jacket that I totally forgot to open up. :o

Ah, the little things you don't think about until it's too late.

Of course, when the alleged "leader" is a half mile behind everyone else:o, it kind of renders the point moot.

I dunno, I've never seen you take being a stoker very seriously.
