I've heard that Shimano is renaming the Ultegra line for '05 and Ultegra is going away. Anyone heard the new name?

The new name for Ultegra will be 205. Dura-Ace are being renamed the 305.

Just kidding. I have no idea.

maybe they're going back to shimano600. that would be an improvement, IMO, ultegra is a dumb name.

or how about NAGADABBT105 (Not As Good As Dura Ace but better than 105)??

or how about...this group has an ugly crank, but it's still not as ugly as the dura ace crank?

I COULD DO THIS ALL NIGHT~!!!!

I agree. I was thinking of this yesterday. Shomano should have a better naming system.

untegra = "ultimate integration"

shimano's marketing department seems to have come out of the auto industry.

Shimano 105, 205, and 305.
Datsun 210, 310, 510, 610, 710 and 810. Oh, and 240/260/280/300Z.

Ingenious.

are we really to believe that dura ace is only...200 better than 105? or only 100 better than the current ultegra?! i mean, get serious, man... :D

At least they're not choosing their names based on the graphics card industry with all the LE's, SE's, XT's, Pro's, Ultra's, etc. I actually like "Ultegra." 105 always sounded a little weird to me.

105 always looks like "SOL" when i see it on the cranks. i like the numbers.

dura ace was originally called "crane" ...i like that one.

I find it hard to believe that they would put the Dura Ace brand to rest at this point.

But then again...

I <3 my 600s.

I <3 my 600s.

I love my 600, too, but I HATE the hoods (non STI). I don't have big hands, and there just doesn't seem to be enough room for a reasonably sized hand to fit comfortably on the hoods for extended periods of time. The top of the hood is just too "pointy" and there is very little room between that and the bar. Any one else have issue with this? I am considering going to STI just for the larger hood size alone. Are there any other alternatives?

I have the 600 STI hoods and levers, and they fit my long, skinny hands right nicely. I'm sure there are tons of different hoods out there if you'd like to keep your tube shifters, though.

My LBS has told me that yes, it will be 10 speed with a triple option.

Hmmm, never knew that. Then why 105? I mean, what's the reasoning behind calling it 105? It gives 105%.....?

Anybody wanna give Dura Ace a shot? That's a pretty dumb name, too, IMO. Sounds like some kind of pidgin english.

Dura = Durable? (hmm. Probably no more than 105 or Ultegra.)
Ace = #1? (Since it's Shimano's top-of-the-line, why not. It just that it makes me think of playing cards.)

From the Dura Ace website:

1973

The first generation Dura-Ace components are introduced. They use the Crane Derailleur, a precursor to the Dura-Ace model, which features Shimano’s double-pantagraph (dual-spring) design. “Dura” from the duralumin alloy used in production, and “Ace” simply meaning The Best.

shimano will probable going to introduce a new higher line groupo. i mean if they want to be better than campy. as i read/heard so far campy record is way better than dura ace.
