So we will be moving to Rutland, VT and I have only been there once in my life (and the interview went very well). I road bike, mt bike and my favorite dirt road bike. All I've ever heard about is good mt biking and that vermont is good for road biking in general. The city does have bike routes in town to avoid major streets, so I know there are cyclist there.
Does anybody know what the biking is like in Rutland? Is there a bike club?
Thanks,
Scott Shurlow
I'm a bit further north... but Rutland is a funky town.
Lots of dirt roads not too far off the beaten path. Head down to Tinmouth for some great road / dirt riding. And Killington is just up up the busy road. Not sure if they open for MTB in the summer.

Scott,
I live in rutland now and grew up nearby.
If it's mountain biking you';re looking for, you're moving to the right place. Check out www.pinehillpark.org (http://www.pinehillpark.org), it's our local riding park.
You will not be dissappointed, I've ridden all over New England, and PH is still my favorite place to ride. We've got a lot of technical singletrack as well as a tight-knit riding community.
This is a cool place to live, you'll like it.

Been in Rutland my whole life and now live in Mendon which is just up the mountain. Pine hill park is great for mountain biking single track. Try the Wheelerville road for quiet dirt road riding with a lot of hills. Rutland has no real bike paths and riding in the city can be scary since the roads are for the most part in pretty rough shape. Not sure if it's still true but we used to have the most bars per capita of anywhere in the nation. If you're into the outdoors, great place to hike, ride, ski, you name it. If not, well we do have the most bars:)

Forgot to mention. If you do the wheelerville ride, bring a camera. Last Tuesday I came around the corner huffing and puffing to find a moose standing beside the road. He was pretty mellow, but scared me half to death as I went by him maybe 20 ft away. Stopped once I got a tree between us and we looked at each other for a bit. He started walking towards me and I decided that moving on was a good idea. Last I saw he followed me a bit then headed into the woods. I have a camera with me from now on and bet I'll never see him again but I'm looking. Made the days ride pretty special.
