Road Cycling - Ksyrium SSC SL Cracks

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I bought my Ksyrium SSC SL wheels March 2003 and only use them for racing. Sunday I was inspecting my rims and guess what???? Four areas around the spokes were cracked, one being very bad. Taking them back to my local bike shop he mentioned that there is a weight limit on the rims of 85kg's. Well, I asked him to send them back to the importers and see what they would say. I am under 85kg's thus their response should be interesting. Has anyone else heard or experienced similar problems? I thought these rims were industructable!!!!!!

I'm unaware of a weight limit on the SSC's. The owner of a local LBS has them on his bike... and is 200lbs. I've seen people over 200 riding these wheels.
I ran the Elites for 2000 miles, but had a problem with the hub... not the spokes..
I'm usually between 190 and 200lbs.

It is NOT true that there is an 85k weight limit for these wheels.
At 275lbs, when asked, Mavic recommended these wheels.
I have heard about the rim cracking issue though.
So far no problem with mine.

Im 140lbs and had my rear wheel crack in 2 spots just under a year old with 10k miles on them. i train and race on these wheels it has been 3 weeks since i took the wheel to lbs they said about another week it should be in. they said they have seen plenty of them cracking!! if you own a set of these inspect them for cracks right in the middle of rim across the spoke holes.

g'day,
there is no weight restriction on Ksyriums. i have a pair of 2003 & haven't had any issues with them (a couple of broken spokes). I don't train on them, only race. A mate got some around the same time & rode them everyday. at around 10,000km he discovered a crack in the rim. Was replaced under warranty, no questions asked, by mavic. No wheel is indestructable, the only real question is how the manufacturer treats the situation if you have an issue. Mavic was exceptional in this respect,
cheers,
Hitchy
