Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - I'd like to share and thank!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Well, i'd like to thank everyone on this Clydesdale/Athena forum for helping me get sparked again! I read your post weekly and it makes me just go!

After planning and talking this out i am part of a small group riding from L.A to Boston this summer.
(My Midwest to L.A, didnt quite work). Now i have some motivated individuals that made this a reality and we'll see you on the road soon!!! I'll be representing Clydesdale's every mile!

Thank you Again!

Our mission is to inspire others to ride bicycles as a primary form of transportation. A bicycle offers the most efficient and environmentally-friendly form of transport for local travel.
Try it out! Bike to work, bike to school, bike as a family, bike with friends. In small or large ways, your bike can become part of your daily routine.
A community that cycles promotes: healthy citizens, less traffic congestion, bike-friendly streets, cleaner air & less reliance on fossil fuels. The only way to start this chain of events is to Join the Cycle and start riding! We envision a future where urban planning makes bicycle travel a priority, where communities provide safe routes for riders of all ages, and where cyclists and motorists share the streets.

Great now get to work on your web site so we can take the pledge, get the t-shirts, yada, yada, yada.

I'm already car-free. Not to easy to do living in a large car-centric city like Houston. A lot of bike infrastructure has been sacrificed to improvement of car infrastructure. Bike lanes and routes tend to disappear when a new toll road goes in etc.

We really need to break the bicycle as toy thought process, and begin a bicycle as serious transportation thought process.

That Clydes and Athenas can do this debunks the "I'm too out of shape to ride a bike" excuse (they don't need to know how much we really are in shape despite appearances).

Thanks!

Tex - I completely agree! The realization when i rode my first mile after not riding since childhood was this is freedom! Freedom from weight, traffic, fumes, etc! America needs to rediscover cycling! I think its happening... slowly though!

FYA, my wife and I planned our honeymoon in 1977 to go from LA, starting in Laguna Beach, to Boston. We left May 3 and had to be in Boston July 1. In Colorado, about three weeks into the trip we decided we weren't making enough progress so we set our sights on Washington DC and made it there on June 27. We then took an overnight train to Boston after about two days in DC. FWIW.
