Northeast - Abandoned Pa Turnpike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Thanks, MikeR, for promoting this. It was nice to meet so many Bike Forums posters.
My photos are in a thread on the Clydesdale Forum:

Thanks to everyone who put this together, especially Mike.
Nice meeting everyone.
Even getting berated by the deer husbandry guy was fun.
And advice to anyone else who does this ride: bring your full lighting kit. It really is dark.

Jim,
Are you in any of the above pictures? I'm not sure I meet you.
Dan
I think I my face only appears in one of the shots Historian posted in the Clyde thread about the ride. I drove in in the little white car with the bike on the roof rack. I was wearing a plain white shirt with no helmet. And I was with the woman who rode the whole way in and out.
You are one of the few BFers who I have had any dealings with on-line, so I was trying to figure out who you were.

Wait! You were riding fixed, right? We stopped and chatted at the end of the ride! Good to finally meet you. :)

Highlights running through my head tonight:
1. The petrified rat - I can't remember who found it. I just remember seeing it in someones hand. It was too gross to look away.
2. jgedwa and his girlfriend getting chased by the farmer who had pregnant deer. That was the funniest part of the day.
3. The tunnel above the tunnel.
4. Coming in the wrong entrance and driving through a jungle.
5. All the great people and conversations during the ride and at the mini picnic after the ride.
What a great time i had.
Hi Mike,
I was the one to find the petrified rat in one of the large blowers but I couldn't even give it (the rat) away. Question: Who was the mountain biker that always wore a dried pet fish around their neck???? What's the full story about the farmer and the deer (nothing to do with the farmer's daughter I hope).

Good, I'm glad we at least talked. Sorry I did not introduce myself. I think I must have introduced myself to every single person but you. And yup, that was me on my homebrew fixy.

Oh, you know, its the old story: boy meets girl who meets a doe with bedroom eyes who meets an angry farmer. Its a story as old as the forest. Nothing a little sprint back down the trail couldn't solve.

p.s., We did not do it; or in any case, it cannot be proven that we did it.

I'm not sure when you turned around. Do you see the first tunnel?
It was great meeting you and Martha.
We turned around about a mile after the first tunnel. Spooky! Great meeting you also.

Ya know I can vividly see your hand holding the rat but I now realize that that's all I could see. I could not take my eyes of it.
Jim and his girlfriend got chased off of their picnic site by an irate farmer. Seams they were on his land. Sounds like the farmer was almost foaming at the mouth and complaining that they were disturbing his pregnant deer.

jimI guess we should wear name tags, but I hate those things.

Thanks everyone, that was a really fun ride.
I uploaded a video to youtube. It's pretty funny - FrederickH or Machin Shin was whistling the opening tune to a Clint Eastwood movie about halfway through the video.

 That was me whistling "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly."
Here's the video again embedded in the post. Yellow Jersey club has some benefits.

Thanks Dan,
Your whistling cracked me up. I remember hearing you laugh like a fool when we were speeding through the tunnels @ 20mph, but I never hear your theme song until the movie.:thumb:

:D
I felt like a kid again. I couldn't help it.
It's amazing to me that in 40 years on this earth, there are still things out there to do and see that surprise and delight me. Riding through that tunnel definately qualifies. :)
