i recently purchased a bianchi frame and the ad said it took an 1 1/8" fork but when it arrived i found out that it takes a 1" instead. before i sell the frame or send it back to the seller i thought i would see what forks are out there. the lbs can order some tange cro-mo ones for $40 but i wondered what my other options would be.

icyclesusa.com is selling a threadless, one inch kinesis crosslight fork (http://store.icyclesusa.com/shared/StoreFront/product_detail.asp?RowID=1300&CS=icycles&All=) for cheap. they claim the weight to be 688 grams, which is probably lighter than most one inch carbon forks available.

edit: sorry for the weirdish link! i can't get it to work quite right with the site's frames!

Nothing wrong with a steel fork. They can take some serious punishment before failing. They do weigh a lot more than CF though.

Actually, that is not always so. My steel fork is in the 800g range. Most of the basic carbon and alloy forks are not more than 200g lighter than that. And I would have to give up a fair bit to loose that weight. It's not worth swapping the fork unless you get something really light and nice like an Edge or Alpha Q atmo.
