I am looking at these two fine bikes. I am looking for feedback from owners of these bikes. Specifically i want to know about tire/fender clearance and break clearance. With fenders how big of tires are these bikes really able to accommodate? What breaks are you using to work with the fenders and wider tires?

merlin's site says 700x32, so probably x28 w fenders would be my guess. have you considered going custom at this price range?

I am considering costume as well. Any recommendations?

costume and breaks!

i run the long reach brakes on my IF club racer. can fit 32s or 28s with fenders (depends on rim and tire choice)

you could always go disc... might be able to squeak in slightly larger tires.


and you could always go custom, and go really long reach, or use some of paul's fine brakes.
