I was thinking of putting it along the frame, but if I put it there I won't have any room for my bottle cage that I will be buying soon, as there won't be enough room for both, is there a place where I can put it where I can get too it easy and yet it is still out of the way and free's up room for my bottle cage? I don't have panniers.
i have the same problem. I have small frame and so my bigass kryptonite lock dosn't fit. The guy who built my bike was also my boyfriend, so he put a lot of time trying to solve that problem for me, but we hadn't been able to solve it as yet. I decided that for now, I use a small sized courier bag for my bike. IF anyone has any suggestions, I want to know too!

You don't have panniers, but do you have a rack? I use one of those grocery basket things and put my lock in there with my backpack. Before that, I bungied the backpack to the rack, with the lock between the rack and the backpack. I assume this is a U-lock, so it can't be coiled into a behind-the-seat bag.
Oh, my wife has a lock that mounts to the main seat-tube (not the seat-post), and the lock swivels out to the back. I don't remember who makes this, but she got her bike at a Trek factory store.

Dogboy, I don't have a rack either, I usually carry my lock in a backpack, but that is a pain in the neck sometimes. I have a U-lock as well. I need a holder that can swivel out towards the back of the bike as well.
I haev a U-Lock. I like the idea of a clip that mounts to the seattube thign (thats the top top of the frame right? I'm new so bae with me) I liek that idea, of a clip and then you clip your lock into it, and then you can snap it down so it rides parallel with the frame, is this what your wife has?
I leave my U-lock on the rack at work. If I'm running errands, I strap a cable lock to my backpack.

I put my mini-krypto in my back pocket.
Here is what my setup looks like. Hope it helps:

I need a holder that can swivel out towards the back of the bike as well. The last coupla Kryptonite locks I've bought have just such a holder. It goes around the seat tube, and the lock points backward, parallel to the stays. I don't use it, because I have a frame-fit pump that snaps in the whole length of the seat tube. But I have a rear rack, and use a Blackburn rack-strap to hold the lock to the top of the rack. My wife's bike uses the holder setup; if I remember, I'll take a photo and post it.

You can buy a lock holster ( see http://www.pacdesigns.com/other.htm ). This is kind of pricey. You should be able to come up with one of these to fit on your belt or the waistbelt of your backpack using a bit of imagination and scavenged bits from the crafts/fabric store.

I never let my bike out of my sight for more than 5 minutes while riding..At work it is safe..So...So, far I do not need a heavy U bolt lock...
So far just a cable and lock...So it fasten under my saddle through the rails..Hope at is all I ever need, while out riding?
At home, locks is another matter...Thick cables are flung in every which direction through a multitude of bike and u bolts.

My Krytonite fits nicely on top of my rack, held in place by a bunji chord. It is quicker to use than a frame mount, where you have to lock the thing in place. I dont like adding mounts and stuff to my bike. Its also quicker to reach if ever I need a blunt instrument.

I, like MichaelW, bungie mine to the top of my pannier rack. But here is a clamp that can be purchased to hang a U-Lock from your handlebars. I think the same company makes some blocks that more firmly attach a U-Lock to the top of your handlebar.

The newer frame mounts for Kryptonites don't require you to lock the lock around the mount; they have a quick-release. And where it is on my wife's bike, it would actually be handier for "blunt instrument" situations.
Bungie cord! Excellent idea. When I got my Kryptonite lock, it did wcome with that clippy thing, but I am really tiny so I have a really tiny frame. That bungie cord idea is good actually. I want to be aleo to have my lock run parallel to my frame.
Thanks!

It's good to lock it at work also. Since mine was stolen, I've been hearing all sorts of if wild stories. Someone said that people can see your meeting schedule and just take it while you're at a meeting. I haven't figured out *what* to lock mine too. I don't have another yet bike...just thinking ahead.

I carry mine in a horizontal clip on the seatpost, with the lock to the rear, caught up by the straps on my seat bag.

I'm lucky, we ahve secrutiy cameras surrounding the parameter of the place I work, which we kep an eye on, or at least people know we keep an eye on them most of the time!
I'm trying to get a bike rack at work, as we're all locking our bikes up to the fireescape, which can't be good for code. I'm the only staff that bikes so its ahrd thing to ntroduce!

I have a 3ft. kryptonite chain/mini u-lock. The best place for me to keep this monstrously oppressive hunk of dead weight is around my waist.

velcro cable ties, the industrial kind. They have one entire side loop, and the other side hook, and usually have a flared end with a slot in it to run the cable through.
I set up two of those on my seattube, and one or more on my stays. If you have a long shcakle lock, it works great, allowing your 4-point securing of your lock, and being easy to unhook, just release the back two velcros, and then twist by the shackle to releasse the locking portion from your seatpost.
A cost for a 100-roll of those kinds of ties is about $40...but think of all teh loose cables around the house and misc stuff you can bundle up with em too :)
As far as my giant chain...I keep it in my messenger bag. it may screw with me on long or very fast trips, but hey...it's easier than finding a place to wrap a chain that humongous.
