Hi all. Just want to let the Long Island locals know that there is a new bike shop in Huntington NY that is due to open this Saturday the 18th. Name of it is Cycle Fast USA. Looks like a huge store. Hopefully they will have decent prices.

not sure what the exact address is. Their website is down now but it is on Jericho Tpke about 1.3 miles east of Rt 110. Near the intersection of Beverly road.

I believe this used to be Frenchies on Rt 110 across from the Walt Whitman Mall
They don't advertise this but I believe this is the case
I called them and don't think they have high end stuff
They said they carry Raleigh, Iron Horse, GT bikes

I think you are right. Last week around Tuesday I was searching for their website and noticed that in the beginning of the day http://cyclefastusa.com was resolving to Frenchies website and www.cyclefastusa.com was resolving to the new website. by the middle of the day both urls were going to the new site.
I was there both days being they are around the corner from my house. They seemed to have decent stuff at decent prices. They seem to have a large selection of bikes out on the floor. My only suggestion is that they put more accessories and upgrades out on display.
I hope they do well.

I passed by this store yesterday. Looks pretty large for a start-up. I'd suspect you're right about the Frenchie's connection. I didn't even realize Frenchie's had closed, though!

Regarding the quality of the bikes, I think it can't hurt to open a store that sells affordable bikes that are just a step above XMart models. This might attract more people to bike commuting and provide more incentive for families and individuals to give bicycling a shot. There's a small, high-end bike store in downtown Syosset that attracts fanatics from everywhere, but regular cyclists like me can't even buy a tire tube there.

Funny, I called the guy in Syosset and asked him if I could walk out of his shop with a bike for less than $3k. He said nope, maybe less than $4k. We talked a bit about bikes and fit and he acknowledged that I was not (yet) his target market. I asked if he could recommend someone who might be more in my sweet spot, and he recommended Bikeworks in Greenvale, said talk to Bob. (I did and I was, and am, very happy.) I said thanks for the info, I'll have to stop in and buy something from you as a way of expressing my thanks. Now, I forget exactly what he said, but it was something along the lines of, feel free, but even the price of our water bottles would probably stop your heart.

I assume that would be Bicycle Planet. Thats where I got 2 bikes and most of my gear in the past. Its been a while since Ive been there. Sounds like he raised his prices. To bad. Thanks for the info about Bikeworks. :thumb:

Actually, this is Road Worx in the village of Syosset itself. www.roadworxli.com (http://www.roadworxli.com) Bicycle Planet is up on Jericho Tpke. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Bicycle Planet. In my experience the staff is generally made up of a bunch of moderately un-informed teenagers. I shop there from time to time, but I tend not to enjoy the experience too much. Nothing wrong with them, but I always felt more like they were there to sell me something than to explain the pluses and minuses and aid in the process of making informed decisions. I will, however, be giving them money again soon I'm sure.

Bikeworks, on the other hand, I would recommend without reservation.

Yea I was in ski stop and saw they had flyers everywhere. I am psyched because my idiot brother has like $300 plus in store credit and he doesn't even ski/snowboard. So that means I get to buy bike stuff with it! I saw them setting up the shelves. From what I saw they are going to carry a lot of gear.

Is this Ski Stop in Plainview or some place in Huntington (Sno Haus??)

I believe it is plainview. Off the LIE service road at about exit 46. Its called Ski and Patio Stop. They now added Bike Stop.

Oh sorry I originally meant Snow Haus Ski Shop in Huntington was going to start selling bikes but I guess Ski Stop in Plainview might be getting in on the action also. Dont take my word for it, its just rumors that Ive been hearing.

I thought all those ski and snowboard places turned into bike and tennis shops during the summer. The same guy who sold you overpriced skis can later sell you underperforming bikes. :D

I guess it is coincidence but Ski Stop in Plainview is now Ski and Bike Stop. I just went in yesterday. They have a bunch of stuff. Nothing all that good but they are still setting up even though it is open.

The one by me turns into a patio furniture store :roflmao2:

Sorry to bump but I just wanted to share my experience with Cycle Fast.

They didn't have any 700x23 tubes so he convinced me [I admit I am new] that 700x~28-32 would be fine. It worked but was very difficult and ended up getting a flat, but I guess that's my fault.

What I really do have a problem with is the total was $11 something for a tube and tire levers and he accidentally charged my 1. something. He asked for my card back to fix it. He then charged me the full 11 something again so my total on my bank statement the next day was almost 14 dollars. Going back tomorrow and going to try to exchange one of the tire levers which snapped like a twig. Going somewhere else after that to get the right size tube.

He also tried to sell me a dirty pair of "time trial" bullhorns which he dug out of the back and were clearly used and previously taped and filthy for 50 dollars. I guess I just look like a stooge, found the same ones somewhere else for 20 new.

Not necessarily scam but definitely a less than honest which is something I don't want to deal with in this economy.

There was a post on the CLIMB site with a similar experience - "Old Stock at Today's Prices !", which probably sums up your experiences.

FWIW, a few years back, I was shopping at Frenchies, in a quest for some new mt. shoes that fit. Saw a 15 year old pair of Shimano's, blue/grey things that laced up with a flap over the laces, that I KNOW were the exact shoe a buddy used when he was the very first in our group to use SPD pedals, so 15 years ago ?. And I know that these shoes were long past being listed on the Shimano website. Frenchies had some of these shoes in boxes that looked like hundreds of people had opened and closed, really beat to hell, so you could tell this stuff had been sitting around a bit. When I inquired of the price, they were $110, which I KNOW was a roughly 50% increase from what they sold for 10 years prior. I commented that these were 10 year old stock and got an argument from the sales person that they were new Shimano, (dust and all). I was outa' there without another word, never been back.

On the CLIMB site, they clamp down on posts that reflect badly on the local shops that are supportive of CLIMB, for good reason. Frenchies supported CLIMB but did not offer the CLIMB member 10% discount. Not sad to see they went under, CLIMB supporters or not.

Yea it seems that they do not have it all together yet. Ive been in there about 4 or 5 times since they opened. One thing that really annoys me is that everytime I get rung up it seems that no one knows how to run the cash register. Cmon guys learn the freakin thing already!
