Road Bike Racing - Greatest

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I know this has probably been asked before but "Who are the greatest racers?
Merckx, Hinault, Coppi, Anquetil, Armstrong are my top five in post-war racing. And not necessarily in that order except for Merckx, who is the greatest cyclist to ever saddle up.

The only truth concealed by Laggard's excellent link is that Merckx is barely comparable with the rest. The best two riders ever are Eddy............. and any other rider.
I think my mom had a bike pre WW2..............?

Right on.
I can't think of many sports with as big a gap between the greatest and the next guy.
