Southeast - Mountains of Misery & Wilderness Road Ride 2009

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

If you haven't done it already, mark your calendars for the 2009 East Coasters Cycling Double Header (http://www.cyclingdoubleheader.com), Memorial Day weekend in southwest Virginia. Wilderness Road Ride (http://www.cyclingdoubleheader.com/wilderness-road-ride) is on Saturday, May 23, and Mountains of Misery (http://www.cyclingdoubleheader.com/mountains-of-misery) on Sunday, May 24. This year's event looks better than ever!

One reason is that we have more help: the New River Valley Agency on Aging (http://http://www.nrvaoa.org/) has stepped in to help run Wilderness Road Ride.

Note that we have a new website, which is still a work in progress. We'll have more pictures and fun stuff on it after this year's event.

Also new this year will be the start procedure for Mountains of Misery. It will remain a surprise for now, but please be on time!

Prices go up May 7, so register early. We do expect Mountains of Misery to sell out. Wilderness Road Ride has no limit, so feel free to just show up and ride.

As always, we love putting on this event for everyone, and we look forward to seeing you!

I'm going. I went two years ago and it took two years to recover! You won't regret it until the last 5 miles. Bring your low gears....

I've already switched my rear cassette to an 11-28. Hope that does it :)

This will be my 10th MoM in a row....year in and year out one of the best supported rides you'll ever do...beautiful scenery, extremely challenging course, almost brutal if the weather is hot and sunny. Go at least once...you won't regret it!
