View Full Version : Cycling causes Impotence

No doubt about it. I was so depressed all day thinking what caused impotence so suddenly, then at the gym while cycling as usual it struck me this is the culprit. Then I stopped cycling on high seated cycle and switched over to the sitting-flat-and-kicking type cycle. Am still slowly recovering.

NO, bad riding position causes the problems. Also, many physical problems cause impotence, which cycling fitness helps prevent. So cycling on proper fitted cycles helps reduce impotence.

It is not our position but the height of the cycle. High saddle puts pressure directly on the artery supplying blood to the penis.

A very good idea might be to have "negative" height so the pedals are above the waist level

They're called recumbents.

This issue has been discussed many times on here, as well as a lot of research done on the subject. Seats have the potential to cause problems when incorrectly positioned.

+1 and pick a saddle that is designed to relieve pressure on the veins around your perineum.

I suspect, by PotBelliedMale's lack of vocabulary, that this is a troll. This debate was decided over a hundred years ago.

If you don't want to accidently procreate wouldn't that mean cycling is safer? So what's it doing in the advocacy and safety section?

Considering that China and India have more population and more bicycles than anywhere, my theory is that it is the other way around.

The Op should remove seat from post and sell it, continue riding as before; solve two problems at once.

I've never relized there were that many flavors of spam. Amazing.

Actually, removing the seat all together (leaving the seat post) would remove the pressure on the mister happy pipeline and put direct pressure to the prostrate. That should cure your problem.

I don't know about cancer or impotence, but cycling is definitely the leading cause of stoopid threads on this forum.

Well it is like kinking a hose, explosive pressure when released and all.

I apologize for any implied disparagement of Lance. And, it is good news that he's going to become a father again, by the natural way this time. Interesting that after all the chemo, etc. his system was able to regenerate its abilities ... but, related to this pseudo-topic, I wonder if his time off of the bike had any impact.

You know, the average couch potato, that never exercises and all the other stuff. So when someone in outstanding physical condition, overcomes such illnesses and injuries; the doctors and others think it is some kind of amazing miracle.

stationary recumbents are actually quite common, I use one at my physical therapist's all the time.

They have them in the gym I sometimes go to also. But frankly I prefer the elliptical trainer as it feels more like climbing some good hills on a bike

The upright bikes have real crappy saddles on them, and folks always remove the toe straps. I pretty much avoid those as they are so different from a real bike.

As far as cycling causing impotence... uh, tell that to Lance Armstrong, who even with half the "sperm factories" has managed to breed again (http://www.celebritybabyscoop.com/2008/12/23/lance-armstrong-expecting-fourth-child/).

I tend to agree with others here that if cycling is involved in the problem, it is due to either bad saddles, bad adjustment or bad technique.

Cycling for well over 30 years sure hasn't given me any sexual limits... in fact, I would have to say it helps. :D (after all, if you can "pump" a bike for 6 hours... ) ;)

I'd hate to see what I'd be like if I stopped cycling. There is already no such thing as to much nooky. If I stopped cycling and "recovered", wow!!! :thumb:
