I'm looking to build a battery pack for my light and I'm getting a little confused. I have 4 18650 3.6v 2000mah cells (I think, they came out of a laptop). I'll be wiring them in series for 14.4v. I'm almost positive they are unprotected cells as they are wired to a pcb currently. I don't want to use the current pcb as its the wrong shape and I have no idea what the specs on it are or how its wired.
My question is how should I go about protecting and charging the pack? Should I use a pcb and a smart charger, or use a pcb that has a charging circuit built in such as this one? http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=4890
I would prefer to use the all-in-one board as it will let me reuse the ac adapter that came with the laptop. Are there any disadvantages to going this route?
