Texas - First time rider in Frisco... where to begin?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey all!
I'm getting my first bike this weekend and want to go on a nice ride Sunday, and probably again on Wednesday. I have horrible first time riding stories, and never felt comfortable with the idea... until now. Of course, I'm not ready to jump on a bike and head up a mountain either.
Anyone have suggestions for first time rides in Frisco that would be fun to pursue?
Thanks all...

You could just pop on down to Plano. Check out the Chisolm Trail/Bluebonnet Trail.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Frisco just yet. What bike did you get?
Plano Bicycle Assn. has several rides throughout the week. If you are a beginner, I would recomend the Novice Ride on Saturday mornings. Casual pace and distance with instruction on group riding.

Thanks all! I'll definately try the ride with Plano's novice group - that's sounds like my kind of speed.
As for the kind of bike... I ended up with the Trek, and very happy with it. I've only been able to go out once but for someone who has been on a bike... three times (?)... it was AWESOME. I can't wait to go out again this morning once the area traffic dies down...... yes I'm still nervous and struggling to go straight in the take off and solid stops... well... I'm sure they will happen eventually, right??
THANKS for the suggestionson where to ride!!!

Hit me up for a ride sometime neighbor! I live right off the Chisolm Trail where it goes around Big Lake.
Makepeacenotkos,
quick question, did you buy a mountain bike or a road bike? it's sort of unclear to me
from the posts. '. . .jump on a bike and head up a mountain' sounds like a mountain bike.
'. . .once the area traffic goes down' and ' take off and solid stops' sounds like a road bike.
Shoot me a PM I'm in Frisco too.

Will do CycleFreak and Lotek.... fyi, I am sooooooooooooo a beginner.... its comical almost.
As for the bike, I ended up with the Trek 7000. After visiting like... seven bike shops, talking to endless salesmen and riding several different bikes it was the one that seemed to make the most sense for what I need. Of course, I have not gone more than 8 miles in one trip yet... though my four mile into-the-wind ride up to the library on Friday was KILLER. Hopefully the rain will come and go quickly, taking the wind with it, and I can get a nice opportunity to push myself sometime later this week. (Fingers crossed)
Is there a way to add "friends" on this site?

Click on the name and select Add to Contacts.
If you're going to crash and need a helmet, chances are it will be when you're just starting out. I hope you have one. Also, don't be afraid to go a little vehicular (i.e., out in the traffic lanes with the cars). If you're riding sidewalks there are lots of hazards to worry about.
Enjoy!
Makepeacnotkos,
A PM is a private message, to send one click on the user name you want to send to and
you should get a list of options. choose send private message.
Everyone starts out slowly, I remember when 5 miles was a killer ride for me, keep at it and
soon you'll be churning out centuries (100 mile rides).
where if Frisco are you?
