First, greetings and my apologies if a similar thread exists (didn't have much luck searching), as well as if this first post seems a little long winded. Keep in mind I know NOTHING about cycling.
I'm (heavily) considering getting into cycling, for improving my health and fitness, as well as commuting to work. I work less than 2 miles from home, riding a bike to work just seems logical. I also spoke to my boss about it, and bringing the bike inside the building for safe keeping is not a problem. This would have changed my mind completely.
I'm looking for a friendly LBS, preferably in the Bergen / Passaic County area for purchasing my first bike. I wouldn't mind going out the area for the purchase, but I am going to need a LBS for maintenance, and would prefer starting that "relationship" with the LBS I got the bike from. Yes, I'm overweight, about 5'8" tall and 245 lbs., so a bike shop that isn't going to make me feel out place, or like I don't belong there, is a huge plus.
And... while I should make a separate post for the following question, probably in the clydes forum, would a Trek 7.2 or 7.3 FX (fell in Love at first sight) make a good beginner/novice bike for someone my size. If not, what are my options in that price range.
