I just found out today that the bike I bought (last Monday) will not be here until June 1st. The guy I bought it from didn't get the reserve price on eBay so I offered him $1,300.00 and he agreed. Well, he was never fast on emailing me back but was a reputable person (I checked with a few others that bought from him before). I never discussed shipping options because he was covering it. I paid for the bike (Monday) and he says after that he can't ship until Friday because he's out of town (I think I would have mentioned it to a potential buyer). Between Monday and Friday, I asked 4 times if he could get it to me by the following Monday (yesterday) because of my birthday. He never gave me a direct answer but I figured he had an idea that I wanted to get it quicker. I also offered to compensate him.

Well, to make a long story short. he told me that it should be here tomorrow and he JUST got me the tracking # today. When I checked it, JUNE 1ST was the scheduled delivery date. UPS Ground was the last method I wanted it shipped. The postal service is quicker.

Also, the scanned item says that it's 4.80lbs? It better be the bike coming. I've already thought about him skimming on shipping to save costs. Anybody else run into weird shipping weights when using UPS Ground? Do they ever show up early? It's coming from Nevada to NYC and was shipped on the 21st. It left Nevada on the 21st and is in transit (that's the last scan). I hate UPS Ground!

Boy am I heated. I've been looking forward to riding this for 2 weeks now.

Not to fuel the fire, but a shipping weight of 4.8 punds sounds like a stripped frame.

Oops, he sent two tracking #'s. Still, it's all June 1st.

I had a bike shipped from Newport News Va via UPS to Toronto. Arrived in 3 days. Weight on the invoice said 41lbs. About 16 pounds off. UPS also shipped it back to the U.S. as I wasn't home the 3 times they (BS) said they came by so it took three weeks in actuality.

Guess I'm not helping much so I''ll go now.

ups ground is the worst. at least if it's something you really want. you should give him negative feedback on his ebay account.

If I said no would it make you feel any better?

Sorry, UPS ground. I have stuff from momovelo coming by them soon. Hope it arrives before Aug when I move overseas. Oh man to have them track me to India, I'd never see the parts.

If it was shiped UPS ground, the tracking number won't show where it's at until it get scanned next. Usually once it gets offloaded in the destination city.

Oh yeah, figure 350 miles per day for UPS.

I work in shipping. Nevada to NYC via UPS ground is probably 4 days. I don't know for sure since I don't have a zone map in front of me.

You're probably looking at the 27th.

I worked in shipping too, and the rule of thumb was always 350 miles per day for UPS.

A package from California to NY took 8 days UPS ground. That was 2 weeks ago.

june first is like, next week. chillll.... i have known UPS ground to come usually one day early. and they generally scan each package at every hub. last year, i watched my forks go from LA, to lincoln, to chicao, to columbus, to boston/framingham over the week it took to get them...it was kida fun. it's not the guy's fault that UPS is slow.

I went through this when I bought my last frame and it does suck. But as long as it arrives and is everything you expect and hope, this delay will be forgotten soon enough.

Anticipation can be a good thing.

Did you get the Santa Cruz? - Any pics?

I've gotten a package earlier than the delivery date, can't remember if it was by 1 or 2 days.

The Santa Cruz is the bike that's on it's way. He sent it UPS Ground when I specifically asked for him not to. I also offered some more money. He did it anyway and paid it no mind... What a jerk.

I can only hope it will get here Friday. If not, definitely Tuesday. UPS Ground has to be the worst service available.

UPS guarantees that transit time for a package shipped from Vegas to NYC will be 5 days.

Call 'em yourself. We ship a couple thousand packages monthly and 95% of the time UPS delivers the package on day they say they will.

Didn't they give you a zone chart showing ground delivery times? I've never heard this 350 miles a day crap.

I agree with the "Chill" comment. If this is the worst thing that happens to you this month, it's been a pretty good month...

I've found UPS to be excellent, but then again I know my driver and I have everything shipped to my office. In my experience, FexEx Ground is terrible, but that is a conversation for another thread.

Get your bike. Ride, enjoy, and smile!

Yeah, I know. It's more the point though. This guy is just not even close to giving a crap about the entire transaction. He didn't get what he wanted for it and I can't leave him bad feedback. On top of it, I made plans to ride all this weekend.

When I sell something on or off eBay, I am in constant contact because that is what I would want. Especially if someone sent me an unsecured $1,300.oo via Paypal. I want them to know that their money is secure. I didn't hear from him for 3 days!

And I'm fine with UPS. They are almost 100% on time all the time. I just don't like the UPS Ground service itself. I think 3-day select is the best bang for the buck.

All in all, it was just a bad seller/buyer transaction. He still hasn't responded as usual and I'll be surprised if I ever hear from him. He shouldn't try to sell anything on eBay again because I'll give my personal feedback. But when the bike gets here, it gets here. ;)

It said 8 days from Sparks, NV to Manhattan, NY.

Here's one of the tracking #'s 1Z V9V 987 03 2150 409 8

From Sparks Neveda to Manhattan is 2700 miles. The pickup date was May 21 and the scheduled delivery date is June 1. That is 11 calender days (10 without the holiday) and 7 business days. If you use the "350 miles per day" figure that UPS gave me, it works out to 7.7 days, which is close enough for most purposes.

Laggard

There ya go. I forgot the weekend and holiday. You don't count the day it was picked up. 5 days is the 24th through the 28th. They probably won't deliver on the weekend and the 31st is a holiday, so it will be dropped off on the 1st. So yeah, 5 business days.

As someone said, the price difference between Ground and 3 Day isn't that great.

Go figure. I got my bike a few months ago via FedEx and it arrived three days earlier than the due date, only 2 days from Portland, OR to Missoula MT.

CRSO,

lets see, you bought the bike outside of e-bay, the seller was slow to answer e-mails
(which I assume were sent prior to your buying the bike), and he (the seller) is paying shipping,
and your hacked off at the seller?
Even with your offer to pay additional for faster shipping, the history was there that this
guy was gonna be slow or not respond to e-mail (or even read them for all you know).
I'm sorry but I just don't think you have a right to whinge. Sure it sux that you won't have
the bike for memorial day, but you'll get over it.

Per Ebay rules, he cannot give him any feedback since this was a private deal (reserve was not met hence not a 'ebay' contract) - I've learned the hard way. - I've made offers on items that did not sell and have done pretty good, but one must be careful and trusting. They can take your money and do what they wish as far as shipping, nothing to lose but personal integrity.
