Bicycle Mechanics - Clicking sound while pedaling

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi everybody, while cycling recently, I have noticed a clicking sound when my right foot gets to about the 3 o'clock position. It happens about 10% of the time while on level ground and almost always while out of the saddle or climbing. I have investigated a lot but I cant seem to see the source. It happens irrespective of gear.
Any ideas of what this could be would be appreciated!
P.S. I would go to the LBS but its a little difficult not speaking the same language, so I want to try and ask here first/
Bent spot in a chainring or rings? Could be a bad bearing in the pedal.

I would say it's a loose chainring bolt. You will need a allen wrench and a special tool if you have shimano cranks for the slotted nut.I learned the hard way a long time ago and used a screwdriver and striped the slot on one of the nuts. Not fun. 2nd item that it might be is a loose bottom bracket. If you don't have the proper tools take it to a shop. If you do have the tools remember the treads or reverse on the driveside bottom bracket that way you won't over tighten it and strip it out. On one of my bikes I had a clicking sound from the cranks and it was the bb. I had to use teflon plumbers tape on the treads and it fixed the problem. Good luck and let us know what it was.

Sounds very similar to my current clicking. Things to look for are bottle cages, chain rings, pedals, crank, derailleur cable hitting the crank, frame pump. However, none of these were the cause of my click which seems to be a problem with the bottom bracket.

I had a similar incident this past week, turned out that it was both my right pedal shifting under load, and my bottom bracket. The bottom bracket is being fixed in the morning since I was already late for work this morning....but just had to figure out what was wrong with it :p

Had the same noise....very clearly was the right pedal. Swapped it out with pedal from other bike and no noise. Process of elimination.

I had a very loud click during my past two rides, and I just discovered I have a broken rear drop-out
You've gotta run throught the list that BigFloppyLlama suggested (I'll add a few more): a crack in your frame, bottle cages, frame pump rubbing, fork steerer, head stem, bottom bracket, pedals, cranks, cranks hitting the front derailleur, chain ring.......almost anything

Don't forget the obvious: shoelace.
Are they toe-clipped or cleated pedals? If so, try putting effort in one foot only for several revs, then switch to the other. This might isolate which side is causing it.
