6 weeks ago I started a plan that I hoped would allow me to go from a 2 mile ride to the local store to completing my 1st Bike-A-Thon of 70k (44miles) on April 25th for the ADA. I've had set backs and need help. With a little effort during weeks 1-3, I progressed from 2 - 25 miles.

Due to the weather and family issues which took me out of town, I wasn't able to ride for 10 days. I was able to use a stationary bike and a treadmill for a few of these days. I've been trying to play catch up Week 5 Sat. I rode 10 miles, Sun.15 miles, Mon. 20 miles, Wed. 24 miles, Thurs. 0 rested, Fri. only 10 miles against a very strong wind blowing.

Tonight Sat. treadmill, tomorrow Sun. will have grandkids all day (arrangements made months ago). What can I or should I do with the next and last 5 days? I need some advice and encouragement. I WILL go and do my best, I made a committment to my team there are only 3 of us and to over 15 people who sponsored me. I don't want to disappoint any of them.

Please any help that you can give, training, diet, rest - whatever. THANK YOU

No need to worry.
ADA rides are fun rides.
No one will care how far you ride.
Rest the day before.
Eat a large breakfast of oats, fruit, cinnimon and a couple of eggs two hours before the ride.

Have fun with the other riders, that is what it is all about.

It's just four 11 mile rides, and you've already done that.

ride, rest, ride, rest... eat a bit, drink lots of water, and have fun!

It'll be over before you know it!

Thank you guys, I feel better already. Instead of allowing this to be fun I was really getting worried. Priscilla

I would say do NOT eat an extra-big breakfast - eat a normal breakfast and start eating little snacks after the first hour or hour-and-a-half. Rest 2 days before the ride.

And yeah, have fun, you'll do just fine.

Please any help that you can give, training, diet, rest - whatever.Take an aspirin and call me in the morning. There's nothing you can do [training wise]to make much difference; so calm down, and try to prepare for the ride.

Take a few minutes to go over the ride scenario in your mind. Start by making a mental list of all the details you will take care of before the ride, and then imagine you have started the ride and think about all the details you may encounter while riding.

Lack of confidence could do you more harm than your training status. For gosh sakes, you're going on a bike ride -turning the event into some kind of ordeal IS a disappointment.
