General Cycling Discussion - Where do you get your jerseys?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My LBS has terrible selection... and only sells the most expensive. I don't really have the budget to drop three digits on a jersey. I was wondering if perhaps you could refer me to the online retailer you use?
Moreso interested in mountain biking jerseys over road cycling jerseys. Doesn't really matter too much.
Thanks!

I don't wear 'em anymore--I do nearly all my riding in T-shirts these days, lest I be mistaken for one of hundreds of arrogant roadie prix around here...
But back when I did, i bought them here:
www.nashbar.com
www.performancebike.com
www.sierratradingpost.com
Also, if you have an REI in your area, they often have pretty good jerseys on sale.

Great tip on velowear! I've got a few inexpensive Jerseys from performance and they are ok. The pockets in a jersey are very practical, but I'd only buy a more expensive jersey as a momento of a big ride. $100+ jersey, no way.

I ordered my club Jerseys from my LBS and that wasn’t too bad. But I have found better deals at outlet stores. I got some Rock Racing Bibs from Rocking Republic for $55.00 and they had jerseys for about the same price. Didn’t happen to have my sixe but I will keep checking back.
Also look for cycling events like a local century. The vendor booths at some of those events will often have overstocked Jerseys for a great price. The Palm Spring Century had a booth with Jerseys on sale for $30.00- $40.00.
Otherwise look for discount jerseys on the net. There are quite a few with prices you will not believe.

I hope that you are not in search of the goofy Rice Krispies/ Spongebob/ Reeses Pieces/ Gerolsteiner type of nonsense? Sierratradingpost.com has a decent selection from time to time. Your best bet is to get a few at a bike ride where some vendors will sell them for a little bit of nothing.
i'm not looking for anything goofy... but I'm also not looking for something boring and/or brightly colored for the roadies.
If i want solids I'll go with UA things as they're cheap and plentiful here. They're just boring, and I need something with long sleeves for trail riding (the nettles, mossies and fire ants bother me :().

Only wear the "Shroud of Arrogance" at dusk when I want that visibility going for me. Other than that - Dashikis.

I sew my own bike outfits. When I see something I like, I buy it and use it as a pattern for future outfits. If you don't want to do/know how to sew, have your local seamstress/tailor make ones for you.

Does elevengear only sell men's clothing? Doesn't seem there's any way to get a women's jersey from them. That's a shame -- I'd like a poseur jersey :D

Dude,
Just cruize ebay - You can get unique and cool cycling jerseys for a song - 5-25 bucks - Sure they are used but most are in NEW condition -
do measure your fave jersey or shirt for the armpit to armpit measure - because m l and xl labels on ebay are useless - if the buyer doesn't post exact measures - ask him what they are -
In the past two week's I've bought about 20 - too much fun - !!!!

I go to the nearest discount department store and buy athletic, breathable shirts. Heck of a lot cheaper than the LBS. The only place I slurge a bit is on the bottom end as I hate saddle sores.

The wait for the sales part can be huge. Only jersey I have 2 of I got because of the full zipper. Think it was Motorola, but not sure and not at home right now. This was probable a $100 jersey 20 years ago. That is before teams resuffled and it was no longet in and more like $40. The quality over most $20 (at teh time) jerseys was very very real. The zipper action was smooth, that can be important if you ride in hte heat and are ziping and unzipping while riding. A little stick while standing is nothing, while riding at 20 MPH it can be a big deal.

Sierratradingpost.com always has good deals/discounts. I wear bike jerseys for safety reasons - the brighter my shirt; the more likely drivers will see me, avoid me, and not kill me!

Why pay more?
I usually wear normal clothes rather than cycling clothes, but the jerseys I do have I've gotten at garage sales, bike swap meets and Goodwill type places. I don't think I've ever paid more than $5 for any of them.

Good point. But why to buy a special bike jersey if a simple yellow T-shirt will do it? :)
I'm having a problem with my wind/rain jacket. I like it, but it's too dark and I'm almost invisible in it. So, I'm looking for a reflective tape or something similar to put it on. See my thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=533903).

"Good point. But why to buy a special bike jersey if a simple yellow T-shirt will do it? :)"
Because regular cotton t-shirts retain sweat and makes me uncomfortable - and I sweat a lot. I do wear nike/under armour performance tees sometimes (when it's not too hot), but the mesh vents in bike jerseys allows much faster evaporation and does a better job to keep my cool and dry.

Now that I know how much my Frosted Flakes jersey annoys people I'll have to get a few more!.:lol::lol:

REI is a good place for bike clothing. Most of it is very unassuming.

These guys are affordable if you like wool jerseys. I do. But generous family members have hooked me up with nice stuff. I think Kucharik is the best -- a small family business in California. Thank-you generous relatives!
When it's warm, I prefer old searsucker shirts. I miss the back pockets, but I love the way the fabric sits off my skin!
Happy shopping.

Not that I'm looking for jerseys, but if I were, I'd look for yellow or orange jerseys. The Fast Forward t-shirts (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302873227&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442620698) are in black, pickle or blue.

When you ride a recumbent, you have to have alternate means of visibility anyway, especially from the back, so the jersey isn't much of a safety issue.

I don't buy any bike jerseys, anymore. My substitutes are athletic wear that's like a jersey. More specifically, since I'm in Huntington Beach (Surf City), I go for surfing wear, the rash guards, short sleeve and long sleeve. They're neat because the design is nowhere like bike wear. If you like unique, lower cost, spandex type and wicking with ultraviolet protection, then rash guards are the way to go.
