Mountain Biking - Well, 2009 is the last year for the Avid Juicy line up.

Was going to replaced my 7's with another set next year. Guess that makes my decision elemental then.

Huh...I love my Juicy 5's too. Wonder how the Elixir 5 will compare (I know it says it feels like the Elixir R, but I have no experience with Elixirs). I don't actually need new brakes though, so I guess it doesn't effect me for now.

Are they switching the entire line to center-lock or are they just providing an option for center-lock users, I wonder?

The Sroker calipers... do they have a similar or the same interface as the Avids? Meaning can you bolt it on directly over an avid mount?

Yes, same interface. In fact, when I needed a 203mm post-mount adapter for the front last year in a hurry (couldn't wait for a Hayes reorder), I bought an Avid adapter from an LBS and it was an identical fit.

That's cool. I wonder what the story is regarding the Avid caliper mount patent... maybe that IP has expired. If so, I'm surprised other disc brake brands hadn't done the same yet.

havn't ridden em yet but the elixrs feel nice, and they are sposed to have more power than the juicys anyway, what i'll prolly miss most is a less expensive entry level good hydro, the juicy 3, so many bikes are coming with them these days and its a good way to keep a bike price down but still have an amazing brake

Elixir's= more power, more pad, more progressive b/c of that taper-bore crap. I like mine.

I find it very amazing that SRAM (or any company for that matter) would just all of a sudden drop a strong brand name (Avid) that has a long standing history of success and large user following.

Maybe this was the long-term plan all along when they bought out the Avid company years ago. But introducing a new brand name could mess-up loyalty structures and open-up and divide their existing market to other technologies that are equally as good.

I sure hope they have a good reason in dropping the Avid brand...

The avid brand isn't being dropped. Just the juicy line.

I don't think they're dropping Avid altogether, just the Juicy line. We know at least Elixirs are going to stay, and it doesn't sound like Code/BB/Single Digit/whatever else they make is going anywhere.

^^ I should've had a quick look at the elixirs first... funny how I equated the words "juicy" and "avid" to be the one and same thing!
