Lorain Wheelmen hosted their AFROST ride today, I was suppose to do the 62 mile route but that didn't happen (more on that later). The forcast was for possible rain in the late afternoon and cooler Temps, the 50's and ne wind around 10mph.
Rode to the start, which is only 7 miles from my home, and picked up a map and waited for the group I was going to ride with. Already realized that I wasn't dressed as warmly as I probably should be. Very poor turnout, to say the least, 30 riders tops, maybe the weather scared I'm off! Route was Amherst, Oberlin, wellington, lagrange, and back, We stopped in Wellington for quick eats, Me and another guy went to the Bread and Brew (nice place, Highly recommed it!!) then met back up with the rest of the group to continue the ride and much to my disapointment they desided to cut it short and head home, since the point of going was to ride with others I just went along, plus I didn't want to ride back into the wind solo. Most of the group had started out from Oberlin and rode in so they bailed out as we rode through town, one guy drove in, so I keep him company back to his car at the start, then rode home from there to get in the miles. This was a small mistake, as it cost me 7 miles in the rain, but ended up with 65 miles after all.
Must admit I really didn't like the ride that much and wouldn't do it again unless the weather was impeccable, roads are OK but I ride them all the time and quess I was looking for something a little more interesting.
If you ever do the ride bring womeone with you because the numbers are small and you might end up on the road for 50 or 60 miles all by yourself.
