Yeah - just having some fun. Truth is, you'll be surrounded by quality routes, no matter what direction you point your bike. I live in san Ramon (just up the road about 5 miles), and I can tell you that the Diablo Valley is on the doorstep of some truly first class cycling environs. Big climbs, little climbs, rollers, whatever you like. The car traffic is courteous, and there are usually very good bike lanes and road pavement on the major blvds.
What, specifically, are you looking for?

im not much of a climber, but i like rolling hills.
im looking for some rides of moderate distance (30-40 miles) that are mostly clear of car traffic and intersections.
im pretty spoiled by some of the roads and awesome MUP i have in sacramento.

I usually avoid the trails around here (I live in San Ramon also) - just too much congestion with walkers, dogs, slower cyclists. Plus, on the Iron Horse Trail from Danville on up towards Walnut Creek it seems like you have to stop every eighth of a mile for an intersection. Not so much fun. Down towards Dublin you do get some longer stretches without intersections, and it seems less crowded as well. The one trail I do use frequently is the one alongside Dougherty. That gets you up almost to Windemere, where there's a good shoulder. However, it's not particularly scenic! I will also jump on the Iron Horse Trail if I'm heading through Walnut Creek simply because so many streets there are not cyclist friendly.
Many of the streets have really good shoulders or marked bike lanes, so there's really not that much reason to seek out the trails. Good routes are posted on here fairly regularly, and there's some on the Valley Spokesmen website as well (www.valleyspokesmen.org). Are you moving here permanently? If so, you'll have to come out one of the rides that get set up on here.
In the meantime, heading down San Ramon/Foothill through Pleasanton to Sunol is a good, relatively easy ride. If you're feeling good at that point, you can always extend it down Calaveras to get in a good gradual climb that's really pretty. To the Calaveras false summit and back from my house in San Ramon ends up being about 60 miles - if you live in Dublin you might be able to take 10 - 15 miles off of that.

thanx for the info JB. ill be living there for at least a year, maybe longer. ive always enjoyed group rides but was never able to get out to many because of my old schedule. to be honest, work has kept me off my bike for the last 7 months or so, but things will change when i move down there, so i should be able to get my legs back under me by mid summer.

You can always do an "out and back" on Da Blvd. It parallels the Iron Horse Trail there, and has fewer stops. In the summer, I think one of the shops in Danville might still put out ice water for riders. BBM or jonathan would know about that.
