Forté Gotham Road and MTB Tires

Has any one tried these tires in the clyde fashion?

I need A good road tire for the MTB my wife and I have signed up for a 40 mile charity ride and new tires are needed for both of out MTB bikes for the trek.

We both currently run 2.1 nobbies and I was also wondering if the tubes need to be replaced going from 2.1 to 1.75?

I am an Uber Clyde and she is an Athena so durability for weight is an issue.

I haven't used the Gotham, but I have used the Forte City ST tires. Durability was not their strong point! After only a few rides, the tread was significantly degraded. My favorite 26" road bike tire is currently the Continental Sport Contact (http://www.biketiresdirect.com/pcospc/continental_sport_contact_tire/pp.htm), 26x1.6. They roll fast, though the profile of the tire is very rounded so they also quicken the handling substantially. "Twitchy" was the adjective I would have used after the first ride, though I quickly got used to them. For gravel paths, I use the WTB All Terrainasaurus in a 26x1.95.

I am now riding only knobby Kenda Karma's on the Peace 29r, but last year I ran a set of Michelin Country Rock's on my 26" Rainier and I absolutely loved them. They were great for the road, and then served as pretty good off road tire if it was dry. Very durable and rate up to 70psi

This tire looks awsome where do I look to get them also are they better than a Big Apple??

Has anyone tried a Big Apple tire or a Hookworm?

I wan a durable and somewhat affordable street only tire that is suitable for my Uber Clyde status with little rolling resistance. The roads around here are not perfect and the sidwalks where the roads are not accessable are large cracks from roots this is the main reason for us not getting road bikes!!

Here are the reviews on the Country Rock.

I got mine at my LBS for $18 each. Just Google them and you can find a few sources. They are pretty cheap. They look really big on the bike. I know it is not important, but i think a meaty mountain bike looks funny with skinny tires, but hey, that's just me:rolleyes:

As far as the big apple's go, I have no experience, but they get great reviews on the MTBR review forum.

Good Luck
Jay

Having given you such sage :50: advice, I turned around and ordered a set of Schwalbe Big Apple 29" x 2.35 fat boys road tires today. I would have rather had the Country Rock's but no 29" yet. Besides, i could have had 4 of the CR's for the set of Apples.

I hope you enjoy the CR's. I always get nervous when someone actually takes my advice:twitchy:

Finnally picked up and installed th rocks today and I will admit at first glance I was dissapointed in the appearance of the tire until I installed them and properly inflated them! Now I love the tire it looks great and rides awsome. The Wife and I went for a 14 mile break in on the tires today and they were everything I wanted, expected and more!! I highly recomend for a rider that needs a semi slickish tire that still has wet and mild offroad traction!!!!
