I have a 2000 19" Schwinn Homegrown, bright orange, with Shimano LX Crank and front derailleur and XTR rear derailleur, with Time Atac pedals. How much is something like this worth in great condition? (Maybe ridden a few hundred miles)
I'm looking to do my first century and feel a switch to a road bike would be a much better fit.
Thanks

Well, mr. sausage king, I just bought a 99 Homegrown Factory suspension, full suspension and all XT w/an XTR rear and ceramic rims for $350. I don't think the seller did as good a job as he might have to sell the bike (better pictures, some research laid out on the legend of the HG, etc) I think if he'd done a bit more someone might have paid $500 or a touch more. Depends on the weather that day. I'm assuming you have a hardtail? Take a look at the classifieds here, do a nationwide craigslist search, and don't forget mtbr. MTBR.com has a section of the forum for each manufacturer, schwinn-mongoose being one of them. Tons of people with interest and knowledge there. There is also a website dedicated to the homegrown: bonustomato.com. Ask the owner of that site. He's pretty knowledgeable.
Assuming you have a hardtail, I almost wonder if you could just put a lightweight carbon fork, skinny tires and go for the 100. Yes, you'd have smaller gearing because of tire diameter, but you aren't giving up much on weight with a homegrown. DOn't hardtails mostly spec out around 23 lbs? My full suspension weighs 26.5 (carbon handlebar & some other goodies)
Best regards

There is a hardtail on the Portland craigslist right now for $550, another in Corvallis, same price. One may be 549.
