Triathlon - how many tri's per season is normal?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just finished my first sprint tri this past sunday and I had a blast and did pretty well. I was wondering when should I sign up for my next one? How many is too many in a season? What do y'all do I guess is my question, and what should my next steps be?

How long is a piece of string? (I think that means it all depends).
I'll do probably 4 sprints, 4 Olympics and two 70.3s this year. In addition, I'll race 15-20 road races (running) do a few centuries, a few duathlons, lead a lot of group rides/long runs and swim a few races, do 3 marathons and probably another ultra.
I think it all depends on how well you train/how much you allow yourself to recover, and of course, how much $$ you can blow on entry fees!
I say do as many as you can handle based on the above things. Make sure you get some rest, but man, have a great time, get out there and enjoy the summer (and spring, and fall)!

What kosherdave said...
Im nowhere near so hardcore, I'm doing 1 Tri a month from May through Sept, probably a duathlon or 2 here and there, and 5-10 road races....

I think there was a "Post Your Race Calendar" thread a few months back. You might want to check that out. Here's mine.
Surf City Half Marathon - Complete
California Half Ironman - Complete
Honu Half Ironman - May 30th
Pacific Coast Sprint Tri - July
Orange County International Tri - September?
NYC Marathon - If I get lucky with the lottery.

As many as you can as long as you give yourself recovery time. Two Ironmans or even 70.3s in a row is a really bad idea. Two sprints a week apart is fine. Just keep in shape, do a bunch of sprints and plan/train for a big race. Since you're new make it an olympic this year, next do a couple but make your big one a half iron and so on. Soon you'll be doing triples!...joking thats called suicide.
