Last Sunday I started the loop at Oak Mtn State Park(17 mi) at the north trailhead. Starting here you immediately begin a 2.4 mile climb. There are a few level spots but the elevation gain is about 550-600'. At the top I realized I had forgotten my water. I was not going back down and then up again. Fortunately I hydrated well before the ride. There are a few spots back down the mtn where you can get water, so I didn't die. Toward the end I came to a section that was supposed to be closed because of a controlled burn taking place. The barriers were down so I proceded and quickly came into the burn area. One side was on fire while the other was not. I guess the trail acted as a fire break. It was kind of a surreal feeling.
