Well, the 2009 Tour de Cure Hampton Roads, VA has ended. I completed the 100 mi. route which basically doubled my mileage for the year. I'm proud to say I completed it with little training and smart enough (hopefully) to train more for future events. Was able to raise $1,150 for the ADA :)
I could not have completed it without the encouragement and fellowship here. Thank You !!
OK, the details....
The 7:30 am start was comfortably cool, no wind and a beautiful sunny morning. Rode the first 11 miles with my bro-in-law Kevin who traveled from Michigan for the event. Since I'm a ' half-fast ' cyclist, he took off & I met up with him again @ mile 52 -- lunch. (He finished a good 2 hours ahead of me.) The afternoon was warm, upper 70's, low humidity, not a cloud in the sky. An absolutely gorgeous day--thank you Mother Nature!
Some stiff headwinds on miles 75-85 made me question my sanity but the strong tail wind for the about last 5 miles was a bonus!!!
Numbers:
Distance 102.63 miles ( about 1.2 miles high -- the cycle computer may need calibration)
Max Speed 21.48 mph
Ave Speed 13.21 mph (may actually be a bit lower due to calibration) My goal was at least 13.0 mph
Ride Time 7hr 45mi 48sec (yea, that is a long time on a bike.......seriously) I wasn't the last to finish, but was close. However, I rode every mile!
Crashes / Falls 0 (Well, almost 1 fall, but I made a good save !)
I'm already planning for next year's ride.
