Almost home yesterday and BOOM, phhhtt, thump, thump, thump... I called out coast and we came to a stop with no squirreliness on the part of the bike. About a 1/4" hole in the rear tire, maybe from a sharp rock or something. Checked the Garmin when I downloaded at home and we were going 25.5mph when it happened.

Tandem forums member's advice to carry a spare tire as well as tubes on a tandem was well appreciated. :thumb: as we were back on the road in under 10 minutes.

Lori now thinks I have mad bike handling skilz.

Well another experience that turned out just right . . . asides from scaring both of you, no doubt.Things like that happen so quick that good reflexes and pehaps a bit of luck play a big role.
Rear blowouts are easier to handle than front ones and have experienced both, including one at 30+ mph.
An extra tube and perhaps a tire boot would have fixed the problem; but good that you carry a spare tire!
We only carry spare folding tire when on an unsupported tour, and yes, have had to use it.
Pedal on TWOgether!
