Would a 7:30 start be early enough? I've never done this ride - where should we meet?

Who's in and what's your preferred start time?

Based on the responses so far, let's plan on leaving at 7:15 SHARP!! Let's meet to the right of the registration tent.

Oh boy, here we go again ... if we do 7:30, it has to be a hard 7:30 ... remember what happened last year? I think we targeted 7 am and we didn't leave till about 7:30 or even later.

My personal preference is 7 am, but I'd rather leave as a whole group.

Anytime between 7 - 7:30 am is fine by me. See you guys there.

BTW, will the group be meeting near the registration tent like last year?

Great. Could you describe the meeting place (e.g. left of the registration tent) and I'll put it in the original post?

Looks like we should push off at 7:30 SHARP

I actually saw Ron, Henry and Ramon inside the tent. But we hang around in front of the entrance of the tent where the bike racks were waiting for others to show up.

Last year we started at 7:04 am and ended at 5:29 pm so I would also prefer a 7 am start. I will drive the morning of the event.

I will join the BF Mass Start.

I was very excited about this ride, but I am not going to risk riding this far and injuring my knees even worse. So that means I will need to sell my registration. Let me know if you want it (and please check what is required to complete the transfer). [EDIT: Tohso will be taking my spot. Ride like the wind, buddy!]

Have a great ride everyone and I hope to join another century sometime soon.

Thanks.

Wow! 10 and a half hours for a century with 3000 ft of climbing? Was it mostly long social stops? It surely wasn't the course.

I'm using the Wine Country Double Metric as my training for Davis Double. With that in mind, I am going to try to get in as many miles as I can possibly get in, which may mean I may get split up from the group. I really do want to get more than a 100 mile ride in before doing the Double.

Last year we rode, but we did a Pete special route/add on/detour. We also stopped by his hotel to pick up Kathy. I think we did 112 or 115 or something, and spent the end into a huge headwind. It did take forever. 4472 climbing.

Hmmm. I'm doing the 100M and it'll be my first. I was planning on 8.5 hours for total ride and rest time. Is that too optimistic? Anyone else just doing the 100M?

Hey Cliff - I'm doing the 100M as well. I'd imagine you'd be fine with your estimate, based on my vast experience of riding exactly one century . I haven't found a profile of the route, but 3000ft over 100miles doesn't sound like there's much climbing at all. Don't know if Georges is referring to the 200km route, or the Curtis/Pete detour above?

Yes, it took forever; riding time was about 7h30. Very long rest stops (3h), especially the lunch stop and the hotel stop. When I loaded my Garmin data in the computer I was surprised it registered a 28% grade. I was even more surprised this grade was in the town of Windsor which is flat as a pancake. It turned out I had the Garmin with me when we took the elevator to get to Kathy's room.

The shortcut from the lunch stop to the end was straight as an arrow but that headwind was a killer. This year I will take the regular route with the climbs, nothing is worse than headwinds.

All this talk about time lost at rest stops is really hitting home - I was surprised what time I rolled in at the Primavera. I would have finished the ride at ~1:25pm if I had zero stops, but instead rolled in just ~2hrs later. Throw in Pete's flat and hanging out on Calaveras once or twice and I guess it all added up.

For everyone doing the 100 mile route.

Please do yourselves a favor and start with the 200k route for the Coleman Valley section, then switch back to the 100 mile route.

You will probably end up with 105 miles or something like that, but it's well worth it. Descending that narrow road toward the Pacific Ocean was the best part of the ride BY FAR.

I took Alan's registration, so I'm IN for the 100m. I will be driving up for day-of registration. Anyone who's done this before, what are my odds of getting through the line to be ready for a 7:15 start? I'd love to ride with the group.

Also, throwing this out, if anyone from Peninsula or South bay is headed up, I'd much rather split costs and carpool than drive all the way up there alone. Or if anyone has a room and wants to reduce their cost by having me sleep on the floor, please let me know. :thumb:

I arrived around 7 am last year and had plenty of time to be ready for the 7:15 start. Registration was very quick, although I was using a transfer from somebody else.
Get the bike ready (with proper tire inflation), prepare your bottles and put shorts, warmers, jerseys, and HRM belt on before leaving home. Keep the on-arrival to do's (shoes, jacket, food in pockets) to the minimum. Last year the early morning was very chilly, I wished I had full fingered gloves. However it got warm later.

Chris, I used a transferred registration last year also for the metric century, and it was fairly quick. If you are shooting for a 7:15 start, I would advise you to get in the line no later than 7:00.

We drove up on the day of the event, and I was pretty pooped by the time I finished, so really didn't look forward to the drive back. With that said, I'd suggest making a weekend of it: stay for one night on Sat. with your gf!

Hey Cliff/MarkoPolo - I'm going to be riding up with gpelpel, and am thinking of switching to/riding the 200k route with him. Depending upon whether you follow Marco's suggestion, this may not make any difference to whether we ride the first 50-60miles together anyway.
