Utility Cycling - Xtracycle DIY kickstand

I am sure that this has been discussed ad nauseum, but I'd like to run a DIY idea by folks.

I'd like to use one of those hebie-like bipod stands. The mounting plate would be a simple steel plate attached to the xtracycle frame with 3 u-bolts (similar to Val's). There would be a hole drilled for the hebie bolt to go through. This hole would be offset from the middle of the frame a little bit to allow clearance for the bolt.

Has anyone tried this and succeeded? I know that the bipod stand is narrower than the kick back though.

The Kickback stand is already a little narrow for me when the bike is loaded. I had to add a mtn bike bar end to the stand for really heavy loads. I don't think a Hebie would do well with a loaded bike.

It is also worthwhile to pay attention to the total length (or height) of the stand. The Hebie stands are extremely durable, but not adjustable at all. If you already have the stand, it might be worth mocking up the installation by simply setting the bike on the stand, to see how much clearance the rear wheel will have with the ground when on the stand. The higher it is, the harder it is to set on the stand, and the less stable it will be.

You'll be happy with it- just remember, you can't use footsies with it and the wideloaders are a bit more of a hassle to change out with the kickback.

Anyone use their setup to haul windsurfing gear about 9 feet long?

it may be out there... but could you use a pair of chain stay type kick stands or one of these and a bottom bracket kickstand.....or is weight/balance just too much
