Mountain Biking - '08 Trek Fuel EX8 Saddle Creaking

Before buying my Trek Fuel EX8 last year, I had remembered their being one or more reviews out on the interweb that had mentioned something about the saddle and/or seat post creaking. I didn’t pay much heed and, frankly, am far too busy to seek those reviews out again. I’ve been experiencing this creaking and its driving me friggin’ nuts. I haven’t really spent allot of time trying to identify the source of the noise and was hoping anyone who has successfully rectified this issue point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Carbon or alu frame and post? If they're both aluminum get a dab of bearing grease and put a thin coat on the part of the seatpost that's going to be inside the frame. If either is carbon get some Tacx carbon assembly compound and use that instead. You can put a tiny dab under the clamps on the saddle rails too if you wish. That should take care of any creaks from the saddle and post.

I don't know if it will help, but I was having the creaking from the seatpost/seat tube on my old steel ride. I loosened the clamp 1/8 turn. Still tight enough to hold in place, but not too tight. Just tight enough. Sound stopped.

I have an '06 EX8 and had the same maddening issue. Clean the seat post first. It seems like a few grains of sand can be enough to creak. My seatpost is aluminum. I greased it with a light grease. I had a quick release lever I traded out for one that cranks down with a bolt. No more creaking except for my knees.
