Group think appreciated: I've got a road race this weekend and it looks like alot of fun: 9 mile loop with 1 mile section of chushed gravel that ends ~.25 miles from the finish. I'd post a link of the video, but work prevents it.
Anyway, it'll be a total mess...:thumb:
So, would 25mm tires make much of a difference? I have 23mm gatorskins and I was going to run the pressure a little low, but would I be better off doing the same with 25s?

Flatlandia? I saw the video and it looks ridiculous. I'm not sure what the weather is gonna look like race day, or a few days before, but I would go 25's if you have them.

+1 - That Leland RR looks crazy. That's not gravel, that's rutted dirt road. I remember reading on CBR something to the effect of the organizer saying, "Line selections will have to be made....can't go mor than 1 or 2 wide, etc." and thought it sounded more like cyclocross.
Race on 25's. Can't remember your weight but I would say run them in the 90psi range too.
I am skipping this one - not because of the gravel, but because there is a BikeForums ride with a ton of guys I know out of Crystal Lake at the same time and I've been racing a lot lately.

if you have 25s, put 'em on, but no need to go out and get new tires. don't run your pressure too low, or you'll risk pinch flatting on the potholes and the gravel.

Here's (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=511016&highlight=gravel) a somewhat related thread.

Thanks Second Mouse, your link was perfect.
Yeah, its Flatlandia. I almost didn't do this because of the race organizing affiliation. I want to upgrade. But I'm really thinking this will be a fun race and I wasn't able to do Hillsboro. It will be nearly 80F so I'm trying to channel S.O. for help, nothing but an elevated HR so far...
The road is not nearly as smooth as the pics in SM's link. It is rutted in parts and rough all around. If you're not in the top 10 going into that section your race may be done after the first lap. One crash will block the entire section. Even without crashes there is two, possibly only one lanes in parts. Comming out the pace will jump to increase the gap.
...man, I can't wait.
