Commuting - Summer Hours...not really a bonus!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Summer is almost here, officially anyway, and with that work summer hours.
From next tuesday June 1st on, our summer schedule will be from 7:30 am till 5:00 pm, this way
every other friday I'll have off.
The problem is that this early schedule will affect my commute, I'd have to wake up 5:00 am to leave the house at 6 - 6:15 am.
This is really a big pain in my neck, 'cause I like my sleep, and don't want to go to bed too early either.
Damn....!
My commute is 12 mile one way, hilly course.
Any suggestions ?

Uh - you can sleep in a little more because there won't be as many people in cars when you start the commute?
I work graveyards, and it's much faster to to get home when I leave on time (6:30 am) than when I work late (8-9 am)
Probably doesn't help much, but...

I say get up at 5 and ride the bike in. It'll only be painful for the first few days... after that your body will get into the swing of it, and you'll go to bed a little bit earlier. Perhaps try to compress your morning schedule a little bit too. I have about the same distance commute, and typically get out the door in 45 mins (bathroom, light breakfast, shower). I usually pack my panniers the night before, and check the bike before I go to bed so I can just grab it all and go in the morning.
Is this a 1 hour change from what you had before?

Yeah, tomorrow ends the winter's schedule 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, untl September.
I hope I'll adjust like you say, but HereNT is right, the rides in would be so peaceful and with much less stress - traffic wise.
I might just go for it a couple days.....hmmmm

I would...
When I'm in town and not travelling for work, I don't really need to get down to the office until 830 or 9. I love riding earlier in the morning (less traffic, cool temps), so I often leave the house by 6 or 630 and am up at my desk eating second breakfast by 730 at the latest. It really doesn't hurt that much... :D Trust me - it hurts far more to not be on the bike!
I work those "summer hours" too but we do it year round. I love having the odd friday off.
I also leave home around 6:15 to get at work by 7am but I get up around 5:45. I simply eat, change, pack my stuff and go.

lay off the beer and get up early and ride. :) i've never heard of that type of schedule before. I like the sound of having a three day weekend twice a month. lucky dog.
