I'm going to be working in Altavista and staying in Lynchburg the first full week of May. Would like to be able to ride either before or after my work day. Actually, I could also drive down early on Sunday and get in a longer ride that afternoon, also.

Can anyone recommend some routes and/or bike stores in the area?

Thanks in advance.

The best shop is Blackwater Bike Shop (http://www.blackwaterbikeshop.com/) just outside Lynchburg in Forest, VA. I actually just logged on to find some routes, and I'll post some if I find any. I hear bikely.com is useful for routes.

edit: yep, here's some: bikely search results for Lynchburg, VA (http://www.bikely.com/listpaths/srchkey/lynchburg%2C+va)

Both Bikes Unlimited and Blackwater are fine shops. I shop at both of them, they can hook you up. There are plenty of routes around the area, including Altavista. Check out www.811velo.com which is yahoo forums for the local riders. There are usually plenty of rides going on. There is also the Central Va Bike Festival on May 17th if you are going to be around. It's a great route to see the best of the area.
