Road Cycling - Is it safe to clamp carbon forks to a roof rack?

I heard it was not recommended because it can damage the drop-outs.

Usually the dropouts are metal, and they are usually clamped in the wheel's QR while riding, so why would this be a problem? I would think that using a frame clamp roof rack mount could be more dangerous to CF tubing than a fork mount could be to a CF fork.
