Mountain Biking - Leader

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've got a 20" Giant Trance dual suspension. It was a show bike for Giant, and our Giant rep sold it to me for CHEAP and it's got a good component spec, but a dually in my area is too much. The wheelbase is too long, which hinders my handling in the technical courses and slows me down a little bit in races.
So yeah, I want to swap everything to a hardtail, but I'm short on cash, and can't afford an XTC even with an employee purchase. How are those hardtail Leader frames on the Bay?
Does anyone have one? Thanks.
Nope...but you could sell your Trance frame for plenty of cash'ola to afford a decent hardtail...say an OnOne.

If you got the Giant for cheap enough, can you sell it for a profit or is it too used at this point?
Trance is a great bike; I think you're better off moving.

I agree, the Trance is a badass bike, and I like it, but it doesn't suit the riding that I do.
I would like to keep it for a 24 hour race I'm doing later this year...
Decisions.

You're kinda where I was at. I went from HT's to a Jamis XLT b/c I love dually's. I couldn't enjoy my terrain all that much, so I went back to a hardtail...then I tried a freeride hardtail setup...but got back to that place where I knew that I'd have more fun on a smaller sled. I'm back to pretty much a light AM HT.

You say you got the trance from your rep? So you work in a shop right? If so, isn't there anything else you could scrounge up there. I know the shop I part time at would look at me funny (and a few evil eyes) if I bought a cheapo online frame when I could get the same deal on something through the shop.
Like Chelboed said, AM HT is the way to go, at least for most of the country.
