Framebuilders - Drop out conversion recommendation

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi,

I am looking at having a builder revamp my current frame and convert the vert drop to horizontal as I much prefer internal hubs for commuting purposes. The catch is, I also want to still have a derailer hanger, and the hard part next. The ability to have a break in the rear triangle on the drive side. i.e. Be able to use one of the carbon drive belt systems for this bike should I wish to. I have seen some drop outs on drive belt bikes so thought there must be some out there.

If anyone has a recomendation where I can point this frame builder to to get them it would be of great help. Please dont worry about posting debates about the validity of belt drive systems. Just info is great thank you :) .... I decided awhile ago this is something I would like to try and figure since I am confverting the drops anyways why not include it.

Thank you,

Didn't some older Raleigh frames have are removable seat stay to accommodate the chaincase?

That's a little off topic.

Good luck on your search.

It shouldn't be too hard to weld a derailleur hanger on one of these:

For an all weather commuter track drops interfere with fenders when you are removing the wheel.

for some reason I didn't read the full OP. Sorry about that. Get an S&S fitting for the belt and then get sliders. You can get a vertical sliding dropout that allows chain adjustment, and they are available with dérailleur hangars

Sliders (http://www.paragonmachineworks.com/product_details.php?productId=361&categoryId=3)

Any horizontal dropout interferes with fenders. But it's manageable.

Those look pefect guys thanks. Oddly enough, I asked this same frame builder to S&S the bike. I had heard of someone before using an S&S to allow for the belt as well, so perhaps the best is just to ask the builder to stick a third S&S on the rear triangle for the purpose of the belt change.

I really like those sliding dropouts.

many thanks...

What kind of bike are we talking about here? A lot of bikes (mostly mtb's) might not have the clearance to be able to run that huge front pulley.

There is also a new device developed for the rear stay in place of the S+S. When it is removed there is a gap between the parts rather than requiring tweaking the stay. I think I may have seen it in that new comuting magazine that just came out by the dirt rag folks.
