Hi everyone, yesterday I rode about 3 hours on and off, and at the end of the day when I laid down to go to bed, my legs were restless, they were OK if I slept with them bent all night but as soon as I straigthened them they would get restless and sometimes twitch, I tried to shake them but it didn't help, any ideas or suggestions on what I can do? Also what could cause this? I was thinking maybe overuse too early in the season perhaps?

Maybe you need more potassium. Bananas are good source. I know that football player were encouraged to eat bananas to avoid leg cramps.

Maybe your legs wanted to go ride! Seriously, sometimes if my legs make me uncomfortable at night I take Motrin or Advil and I'm ok. It seems like as I get more in shape this happens less frequently. YMMV.

I get restless legs in a different sense. Right now, my legs want to go for a ride, badly.

I get this sometimes too. I think sometimes my legs just have more energy left in them than the rest of my body, and want me to go out and ride some more.

yo- CC.
I have bad leg veins and this is my normal state. (Restlesness)
put them above your heart- so reclining w/feet up, more water and the potassium thing (banana)
keeps coming up.
I use Venastat 2 times daily to help out with circulation.
I'm not a DR. but seems as if you may have a little underlying circulation prob.so possibly ride more frequently than doing one big ride untill you are better prepared.

Although I haven't had restless legs for quite awhile, when it happens it usually occurs around bedtime and is quite an annoying feeling. The cure for restless legs, that always works for me, is a capsule of liquid vitamin E. Never fails to calm the legs within an hour or so.

I agree on the potassium 110%. I take 1 595mg tablet of
potassium gluconate everyday for 10 years now and have not
been bothered by either restless legs or the terrible cramps
I used to get. This mineral can be found at any drug store.
It's both cheap and effective in that it will fix your
problem while doing you no harm.

yeah, it might be low electrolyte levels (K, Na, Mg etc.).

Doen't match your symptoms, but mine do that if I haven't used my legs lately either by a hard bike ride or a gym workout. I work them a bit, and no problems.

When I get the jimmy legs ( usually due to inactivity) I take Folic Acid.
