Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So, my friend and I decided about a week or two ago that we wanted to do a short tour this summer. After some thinking we decided we could probably handle a trip to anywhere within 300 miles of here. So our plan became, lets go to sun valley and back. Now it might be, lets go to the ice caves, mammoth caves and craters of the moon and back. Who knows where we are going to end up going at this point. But we know we are going, thats the important thing. So I'm going to start this thread and keep it up to date as we prep and things for the trip. I'm also going to start a blog to kinda do the same thing and post pics and trip reports from riding my motorcycle around Idaho :)
So to get things kinda caught up, this what we know so far. The trip will be a 12 day trip with roughly 6 days of 50 miles of travel. We will be touring as a group between 2 and 4 people. My wife and son are a "maybe", we will see. These are the bikes,

Well I went on a ride the other day and my rear wheel free hub has started to skip gears inside.... If that makes sense, so now the wheel is sitting until I get a new freehub :(
I still havent been able to figure out from anyone if the crossmax freehub will work on the crossride hub. Anyone here know? I already posted it in the bike mechanics forum, and talked to 3 local bike shops who are supposed to get back to me....
Funny thing, I put a different wheel on my bike yesterday after the discovery. The freehub was acting up on that wheel also
Is it possible this is a chain issue? wrong chain type or something? Would that do the same thing?

Well I got a little extra money and decided that since the panniers on Nashbar were on sale that I would buy a set. I got them put on my bike yesterday, they work great for making quick trips to the store :D
Richard and I made our first training trip on last friday, we did roughly 20 miles. Sorry, no pics of the ride, I forgot :( I think I would have been alright, but I was also pulling my 4 year old son in the trailer. I'm gonna have to get a new trailer or borrow my friends if we take our son on the trip. We have an Instep trailer, it must have crappy bearings or something. It felt like I was riding with the brakes slightly rubbing, my rolling resistance was incredibly strong towing that thing. So today my legs were real sore, but I love that feeling :)

Oh I almost forgot, we learned a big lesson just out riding on friday. We were only able to do about 5mph on the gravel and dirt paths while towing the trailer... So we may have longer than expected days since roughly 50% of our route is dirt roads.

I'll be watching this. I grew up outside of Gooding ID so I know the area pretty well.

Went out on a small 7 mile training ride, more mountain biking than touring, so I posted it in the mountain biking section. Here is a link for those that are interested :)
