Commuting - Just bought a Crumpler messenger bag, good choice?

I will be attending college next year and plan to continue to commute on a daily basis. I have been browsing around for a few days when I came across the Crumpler brand. The designs and colours matched my liking and after reading some other comments about Crumpler, I decided to pull the trigger and buy the thing.
I practically stole it from a business on ebay, claiming they were over stocked of the colour that I want. $50 shipped.
Good deal or not? Am I going to enjoy this bag?

Not really a fan of Crumpler. Their bags aren't fully weather-proof like Timbuk2,Bailey,Chrome,etc. That bag's also not very big. I think you would've done better getting a med or large Timbuk2. If you're not super pickey about color you can get one for $50-75 shipped on eBay or various closeout/outlet sites.

I have a Bailey's and it is awesome, I can fit anything and everything I need in this bag for the upcoming week, without having to put racks on my bike! I have the size large. It also has an additonal strap from comming from the bottom of the bag, that attaches on the main strap to help keep it balanced. Overall, I was very impressed with the Bailey's bag.

Well, it does have a stability strap, so it is at least designed for use on the bike -- you're not too far off, at least. It does seem like there's some price inflation in the Crumpler brand in general -- messenger bags have become so trendy among non-cyclists that you have a lot of people paying a lot of money for a brand or fashion with no thought to functionality, and that drives prices up. I wouldn't call your bag a steal at $50, though, not if your primary concern is function. It's a decent price if the bag is well-made, but OTOH my Bontrager (same MSRP as the bag you bought) has more and better pockets, including two water bottle pockets, and includes a laptop compartment standard (you have to pay extra for a laptop sleeve with your bag).

You know it is virtually pointless to ask after you purchased the bag. At this point you will be better served by using the bag after it arrives than asking opinions. That way you stay unbiased. :p

That being said I really like my baileyworks bag. I own a medium pro and can almost stash a cadaver in it.

Crumpler bags are nothing like my chrome bag.
And i've looked at their photo bags many times, and they don't make good use of space at all. There's always way too much padding and material making the bag excessively bulky.

That said, for 50 bucks it will probably serve its purpose for a while and you will learn what you like about it and what you don't so your next bag purchase will be a more informed one instead of buying blind. But be aware that it's not weatherproof.

nice bag, one can never have enough, same with camera bags, I just started using a courier bag in addition to my rack bag, I like the look of a shoulder strap across the back and chest

I bought a Crumpler backpack, the original price was ridiculous, however I found it on www.backcountry.com for like 50% off or something like that. I can finally fit all of my commuting crap/schoolbooks in one bag, rather than a backpack and another crappy bag.
