Okay guys, newbie here, so be gentle. I have a 2002 Z1 Freeride on my SC Chameleon and I just stumbled onto the thread regarding the discounted upgrade to an '03 or '04. What's that all about? Is there a defect with the '02's that I should be concerned with, or is it just a sales gimmick? Many thanks...SC

It is valid. You have to contact a local dealer. They will upgrade you to what they consider you need. In canada this doesn't apply as norco sucks monkey balls but it is totally valid in the states.





ATTENTION FREE RIDERS, EXTREME FREE RIDERS, DIRT JUMPERS AND URBAN RIDERS

If you have misused or abused your forks, or if you have landed improperly in the past, Marzocchi will upgrade:
- Z3, Z3.5 or Z5 forks (30mm MY 2001-2002) to new model year 2003 DJI or DJIII forks
- Z1 30mm (MY 2001-2002) to new model year 2003 Z1 FR 32mm
at a discounted price, regardless of whether your forks show any signs of fatigue, damage, impacts, cracking, creaking, leaking, etc.

There is no direct problem or immediate the issue is two fold. It was the first year of the cryo-fit system and it did not work very well in first year production. Many 2002 forks injured riders because the stanchions would rip out of the crowns. The other issue was abuse. 30mm stanchion are not designed for the abuse of what a freeride fork or dj fork really entails so it was misadvertising on marzocchis part. Really the 2002 z1 fr was a tough trail fork. Not meant for real freeriding.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm probably okay with my forks then as I'm not a balls-out freeride kind of guy. I like doing a few mellow drops from time to time and some technical single track..a little more than cross-country but not enough to make a widow out of my wife and an orphan out of my son. I'll give Marzocchi a call and see what they say. Thanks again...SC
