Northern California - Something Quick Saturday 4/25

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I know everyone is out doing centuries and the like, but with limited time Saturday I'm looking at doing a basic Pagemill/Skyline/84/Foothill loop. Starting maybe 8:30am from Gunn HS? I need to be back by 12/12:30.
Anyone interested?

I'll be your huckleberry.
I was planning on staying close to home anyways...it seems most others have organized rides set-up for that day.
I can always make a longer loop, on my own, after you have to split.

I'm on-call, so won't be able to do anything until after 6 pm. I guess it's a night riding weekend for me.

So if anyone else is interested I'm planning on going up Page Mill -> Skyline -> 84 to San Gregorio -> Tunitas -> Woodside to get a bit more miles, and some climbing in.

If you ride to the start you can get your weekly century in!

Don't over-sell me. I am gonna ride to the start but so far only have 83 miles mapped out. :p

Mssr. Michael, are you thinking of something like this?

I would like to add another 1k to 1.5k of climb and another 10 miles into this if anyone is interested.

Yup, that's the general route. I'm down for additional miles as well. :thumb:
I might end up doing this ride, depending on band practice Saturday night and singer auditions.
OT, but is Pescadero Creek Rd. any good to ride from Stage to Alpine?

Here it is (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/282726): according to Bikely, it's a 70-miler with 7,500-ft of climb. Not sure how accurate that is, but I'm using Bikely as my reference point.
Chris, are you sure you don't want to join in on the fun? Perhaps skip out the OLH (third) climb, but at least do both Page Mill and Tunitas? Maybe we can start 30 minute earlier?

I think that Pescadero Creek Road from 84/Alpine to Stage road is a good climb. I've done it once, and it was kinda nice. Accordingly to Bikely (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/282732), it's about 2,600 ft of climb. in 13 miles if you go from east to west.

I'd like to be home relatively early too so this variation looks perfect for me since I live in Redwood City.

On the return trip it's a lot of false flat for a while before the climbing begins. Then you get to climb Haskins Hill under a warm or hot sun depending on weather.

I will have to decide day-of probably. I stupidly rode the spin bike w/o taping my knee on Tuesday. It's a bit sore, but I hope with advil and ice to be good for Saturday.
I am up with starting at 8, with the plan of pagemill/tunitas. Anyway, it's not like I see you guys on climbs unless you're keeping your heart rate under 140. :P

If you all don't mind a BF ride newbie tagging along, I might be interested in this ride.

Oh yeah. :D
From Stage to Alpine it's rolling hills, slightly uphill until you get to my house. ;) Very scenic and windy, farmlands and then woods for about 8 miles.
Then you hit Haskins Hill, it's 2 miles up, a good amount of it 8-11%, then a really fun 2-mile descent to Alpine.
Going the other direction, from Alpine to Stage it's slightly less steep of a climb on Haskins, still a nice descent.
I'd have to say it's one of the best roads around. :thumb:

Turns out that I can't do the full version of the mellum76 ride. I am still planning on the initial up-and-down Page Mill, however. Just needs to be back to the starting line by 10:30. Will try the full 70-mile version on Sunday late morning. Sigh (very exasperated one).
It dosen't look I'll be able to do this ride Saturday. Bummer.

Next weekend my parade of visitors will be over and I'll look at some Long Saturday/Short Sunday (or vice versa) rides again.
Anyway, if I have to be back really early I will race you up Page Mill and you can feel better about yourself!

You kill me. Anyhow, meet at 8:00 at Gunn HS tomorrow? Who else is in? Michael, Ramon (maybe), RmblnWrck (http://www.bikeforums.net/member.php?u=97280) (maybe), and ChrisNY?
Yes, my vote is for 8am at Gunn. It should be a balmy 50 by then.

I'm in. I think I hear Tunitas calling my name, but my legs will confirm one way or the other after Page Mill. :)

I probably will not make this ride after all. This is a little early for me (I mean a lot early for me), especially with the temperature. Plus, I don't want to jinx Chris...
But there is a small chance I will be at Gunn HS at 8.
yeah, 8am is pretty early, I'll try to make it but don't wait for me. I might decide to do Hamilton front and back plus whatever.

Well i'm about 95% sure that i won't be doing the Hamilton Challenge tomorrow like I was planning. Didn't get home from work until 9:30 tonight and I'm way too beat to think about getting up at 5am for a 125 mile ride. So I'll try to join y'all tomorrow. 8am seems downright late compared to what I'd been planning on! ;)
I am still aiming for a century tomorrow .. still haven't figured out where I'll throw in the extra miles but one thing I'm secretly planning on is to hit up Lobitos Creek. It's a nice detour at the bottom of Tunitas that would add about 4 miles. Also I kinda want to explore "lower" west bear gulch. This is a dead end that would also add about 4 miles.
Anyway I'm not trying to change the "official" route since it's pretty late in the game for that just saying I might end up kind of doing my own thing :)
