Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - They Take Down The Hills Away At Night

It has been last fall since I took a night ride. Man, i forgot how much I love that:thumb:. I hopped on the Peace at about 8pm last night and told my wife that I was going to take a spin around the neighborhood. 10 miles later I returned. I live in a pretty small town so traffic is kind of a non-issue, or at worst is easy enough to negotiate in the dark.

Anyway, I love what happens to hills in the dark. Steeps that normally mess with my mind and legs just don't seem to be a problem in the dark. I love that.:love: I seriously intended to only be gone for a few minute, and then I found myself in the park, bike hopping down the steps of the grandstand, I also zipped down a cart path through a 9 hole country club:innocent:, I buzzed the Wal-Mart on the edge of town, as well as the campus of the State Mental Institution.

When I returned home my wife who lays blanketed in a lounge chair on our deck and reads in the dark with a little book light said "Just the neighborhood huh?". She asked me if I had ridden through the alley on Fairview Ave. to get back home. I responded that I did. She said she could here me coming by the progressive volume of the barking from the dogs that live at those houses.

Great ride. I hope to do more.

Absolutely...ever since i mounted my bright little SSC P7 flashlight to my handlebars last summer, i found myself wanting to ride alot more at night...i'm able to stay focused more on pushing my bike(and myself) harder when there's only 50ft of road to see in front of me :thumb:

I work nights so I'm going to miss riding at night during the summer.:mad:

It is funny that the hills seeme easier at night. Maybe cause it's cooler or maybe it's the "I can't see what's ahead" factor!:D

I loved to take night time rides back in school growing up (little/no traffic, no blazing Arkansas sun), but I can't say I didn't notice the hills either :) I was right on the fall line and the road north up to the lake was always a fairly long climb, to the south it was all flat cotton country.

Likewise, I'm looking forward to some night rides through various subdivisions here in da town.

Well, there aint no hills down here, but I use to love my 14 mile commute every night to work. Did that for about two years and it was a lot of fun. Lot cooler at night. Hardly any traffic, and I could get a good tempo going. These days my commute is only 8/10 of a mile RT. :notamused:

Welcome back to the night club! I work the overnight and am back into biking...I love taking rides at night. All the bike paths that get clogged during the day are wide open. Cooler for us Clydes, what's not to like? I used to rollerblade in years past at night...this is better!

I have riden at night and it is nice. I live in the country and it is almost creepy on some of the long back roads when you are the only one on the road. I will admit it does mess with my head a little. I do love the feel of the night air though.
