I don't ride my bike to work everyday. I need to rest my legs sometimes, so on my off days I ride the bus to work. Few days ago, I was finishing off a roll of film (yes film) by shooting all the bikes that rode by the bus stop. This is in about a 20 minute time frame. There were a few others, but they were sidewalk riders, too close to where I was sitting for my 50mm lens to fit them all in the frame. Just thought i'd share.

Cool! A lot of diversity in riders and bikes.

Very cool and funny.

I've never seen anyone transport what looks like a 4x6 beam on a bike.

Also, with the big guy on the left side, is that his tongue hanging out, or is that a pink Twinkie?

Haha, at first I thought the beam was a home made bag rack... but after looking at it for a while, your probably right. But how funny would it have been, if it was a bag rack.

I think people would laugh at the stuff I've transported in the past. My favorite was too very large floor plants, one in each ortlieb roller with the top open, with the pots strapped to the top of the rack.

The big guy looks like he has a whistle in his mouth? I've seen a guy commuting around here with a whistle constantly in between his lips....but it COULD be a twinkie I guess.

The big guy looks like he's just finishing devouring a spandex-clad roadie that got in his way.

The board hauler is sporting work gloves as well. Maybe a construction job? I hauled a post hole digger once with the business end on the rear rack and the handles bungeed together in front of the head tube. Not the safest but it worked.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't he wearing a suit? That is what makes it so funny to me. Maybe he’s just picking some stuff up on his way home from work, and it’s just easier to wear the gloves he just bought?

That roll was cheap Fujicolor 200. I don't have a darkroom, but I develop my own in my kitchen and scan the negatives.

Cool stuff. I got 2 100 foot rolls and a bulk loader from a guy off craigslist for $20 bucks. Photography was my pre-bike hobby! I lost my mojo after I lost my Bessa-R. I hope to get back into it when I move into a house.

When I get home, i'll take a look at the full size scan and see if I can figure out what's in that guy's mouth. I dunno though, I think that image is a little blurred.

Coincidentally, i'm planning to buy a Bessa R2A in the near future. (since I can't afford a Leica with a meter)

The woman riding what looks like a fixed gear conversion doesn't seem to have brakes OR foot retention. She's either got mad skills or a death wish.

You mean the dude on the left? heh, heh.. The only woman is the roadie at the bottom. That dude does seem a little crazy now that you mention it though.

NICE!

I have been thinking about doing that with a video camera from a few floors off the ground as to capture riding technique - good and bad - as well.

Great job. When you get a digital camera you will take hundreds of fun snaps on a whim.

The big guy actually looks a lot like me (though probably 40 lbs heavier) but I don't dye my beard.
Actually, I was that size or bigger when I started last year.

I didn't think I'd ever have a reason to share these, but the guy with the board strapped to his bike left me no choice. ;) My dad ran across a downed tree that was perfect for a project he was working on, so naturally he tied it to his bike and hauled it home. :p

Heh.. I have a d70 and d200. I usually use those for working, or if I need some quick shots for the interwebs, or if I feel lazy. My 12 film cameras are for fun shots.

My 12 film cameras are for fun shots.

My folks have an old Nikon and a handful of lenses from Nikon's old secondary brand. (Nikormat?) There's something very satisfying about using it vs. digital cameras (even digital SLRs.)

These really are great photos. I'd encourage you to continue the project on your off days, I think you might wind up with something very cool.

Yea, I'll have to ask him about that. I've now found out the "project" he's working on is a sail for my 19-foot, aluminum canoe ! He's busily rigging up a tarp and wants me to come up with way to attach it to the canoe. (I think I'll notify the Coast Guard before our virgin run.)

LA, as if a car mecca
or perhaps the sacred burial grounds
of a people
encapsulated
sarcophagus
while we breath the exhaust
jockey for lane positions
parking spot, parking lot stockers
speed and squeal tyres around bends
racing for their Que of backup lights

this is Santa Monica Blvd

i was thankful for the bike lane
i was not so thankful for the exhaust
the old school bus
the plight of cars and people that is Iconoclastic of "Thats so LA"

I was happy when I saw another rider taking the lane today. I never see people taking the lane, they always foolishly ride in the door zone.

Interesting collection of diversity. Also interesting that only half of them have the sense to wear a helmet. And isn't talking on a cell phone while riding illegal in California now?

I'm assuming it is since you can't talk with a phone in your hand while driving.
