Hi
Moved over from London and would appreciate some route advice.
Planning to go from Manhattan, over George Washington Bridge, up 9 West to South Nyack.
I'd then like to cross over to Tarrytown - are bikes allowed on the bridge? If not then please ignore the rest:)
If I get over the river head back down the 9 via Yonkers etc.
Is that a pleasant ride? How much traffic is there?
Thanks
Unfortunately, the Tappan Zee Bridge is closed to bicycles except for special organized events every so often.
If you're staying in the city, you could make two trips, one up to Nyack along the west bank of the Hudson River, and one up to Tarrytown along the east.

It would be quite the ride, probably a 2 day event, but you could cross at the Palasades and ride the Bear Mnt area and back home.

Thanks, when I saw "toll bridge" I feared than might be the case

Sounds fun, but may just be beyond my fitness at the moment

If your ambitious you could try this

92 miles or so!
Otherwise 9W to Nyack and back is an enjoyable ride, about 50 miles RT from midtown, and on a nice weekend day you'll be in the company of lots of other cyclists. Tarrytown is also around 50 miles RT, but on the east side of the river and the roads aren't as nice, in fact Rt 9 has no shoulder a lot of the way.
9W between the GWB and Nyack is one of the NYC metro area roadie super-highways. A lot of fun.
On the east side of the Hudson, hit the South and North County rail trail (http://www.nycbikemaps.com/maps/north-and-south-county-trailways-bike-map/), it makes for some great riding. When they finally replace the Tappan Zee there should be a bike/ped path. Until then we're all SOL.

When they finally replace the TZ we'll all be memories.
