Classic and Vintage Sales - C&V Transaction Feedback Thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Post good or bad experiences regarding transactions with other members here.
<moderator edit> Listing member names with positive experiences is fine here. If you have had negative experiences with a member, or members, it's fine to note that, but keep it generic (i.e. don't "out" the member). Posts outing members will be subject to editing or removal. The intent is not to withhold potentially useful information, but rather to prevent contention and "bashing".

I have one bad experience with a member who I had to badger to send a frameset for a couple months, but they finally did, that was a few years ago and that member is not around anymore so it's all good. Generally, most forum members are very fair and trustworthy and an all around pleasure to do business with. USAZorro, little darwin, Dr. Deltron, East Hill have all gone way out of their way to be helpful and overly generous.

And the username of the guy I (cheaply) bought my 1956 Schwinn Corvette from escapes me... the user from Lancaster who gets the cheap bikes at auctions... and some barn bike finds.

Good:
Retyred: Bought a PX-10 from Retyred. Great guy and made everything about the deal as smooth as possible.
Dyermaker: Sold a PX-10 frame to Dyermaker. Easy going guy and wouldn't hesitate to trade/deal with again.
Dirtdrop and Cudak888 have helped me with parts for my PSV10 build and I'm extremely appreciative
Limited transactions for me - but the have been great. When I've needed something it's been quick, fair and fun to work with others here.

Check my profile, my friends list. All of those folks have been a pleasure to deal with. Many are the same folks listed in USAZorro's post.
Earlier this year, a BF member contacted a non member about a part I donated to him to complete a project. This non BF member then sent me an email requesting the same part for his build and offered to pay for it. I refused payment and sent the item to him free of charge and wished him the best. Two weeks later, I received a mystery package in the mail. It was the same non BF member with a hand written note of thank you, a picture of himself and his wife, and two bottles of honey from his very own apiary!
That was one of the most pleasant surprises of the year.
Good folks abide in C&V.

I guess I've been busy the past year and a half.
Here's the list of people I've had contact with either via PM, through some type of transaction, or meeting in person. I'd recommend any of them (the list might not be complete and this is in no specific order):
top506 - when I first joined here and I was a noob he sent me a mixte frame (that mom my still rides :) ) for the cost of shipping
Machin Shin - he lives near me and we've traded parts/shared CL finds etc etc numerous times.
fender1 - another local. thanks for the Ostrich bag ! :) I'll call you soon about the canti's....
Little Darwin- another semi local guy who I don't think we've had a transaction or met, but he knows people I know (The Historian) and I'd vouch for him.
bigbossman - purchased a frame from him a bit ago. Smooth transaction.
JunkYardBike - offered a free rudge frame that I was never able to pick up - just recently met him at the Trexlertown swap , nice guy :)
cudak888 - we've "almost" traded a few times but not yet. I wouldnt hesitate to do so.
The Historian- not really in C & V but an active BF member as well as a local who I've had transaction with. Recommended
Andrea Men- thanks for that brooks imperial :)
RobbieTunes - sent me some stem shifters a bit ago and asked for nothing in return. I have no forgotten about you :) I did however never get back to you about a tri color crank that I ended up using on a project. Sorry about that :(
purevl - i'm pretty sure you sent me some stem shifters too. thanks!
Picchio Special- thanks for putting that c & v ride together last year. Are you doing it again this year? If I can get away for a few hours from my new born I'll be there :)
txvintage - we almost had a transaction with a wrights saddle but for some reason never did. I'd still recommend him as I know he's a stand up guy :)
jgedwa - i believe you offered me a frame but I ended up not needing it. You also have some connection to someone in my town ? Receommended.
Business810 - he gave me a good deal on a beater alloy wheelset. Thanks!
kpug505 - he sent me a Campy seat post for my alan for a great price. You da man!
Old Fat Guy - he hooked me up with a deal on dt shifters and a pump peg. He's not really so curmudgeon. Thanks again!
cyclotoine - we've had a few transaction and they've all been smooth. Thanks Anthony! Recommended.
rhm - another transaction that didnt happen because my plans changed. Wouldnt hesitate to have one though!
iab - sent me a rear campy hub for free. Thanks!
nlerner - we've swapped parts a few times. Recommended.
redXJ - thanks for the stem shifters!
mkeller234 - thanks for the frame and decals!
huerro - thanks for the brake levers!
USAZorro - thanks for the...nothing? I think we traded before, I know we've met at the C & V ride last summer, I can't remember if we've had a transaction but I wouldnt hesitate to do so.
jnvw - sold me my lotus touring bike. Fast shipping and good packaging, thanks!
kalifornsky - hope that jersey is still working out for :)
mudboy - you live about 10 minutes from me and we've never met. I'm sure you're a nice guy though :) Let's ride!
i think that's it. Sure is helpful that I've saved all my PM's!
Shout out to Redneckwes. I forget how many trades he and I have done. On the last one, we had planned on trading frames when I kiboshed the deal before it went through. He sent on his frame to me anyway for the promise of something in the future. Very cool. I would do business with him anytime. Nice guy too.
I have never had anything but success in dealing with people from BF.

Let's see...
Cyclotoine- He and I have done lots of business, always very fun and pleasant, good prices and conversation.
23skiddoo- I purchased some glorious rims from him a while back, I really liked the transaction and getting to talk to him.
Business810 recently sent me some hoods, and they are INCREDIBLE.
Machin Shin has been more than generous- I owe him a really snazzy dinner next time I'm on his side of the states. Great conversations, too.
East Hill and I have had many excellent conversations, she is very fun to talk to and has lots of cool hobbies- I also owe her a snazzy dinner sometime.
USA Zorro and I have done some business, I don't recall much of it, but he used to live near me and is also fun to talk to.
AH! I FORGOT! Jan Nikolajsen is a great fellow, fun to talk to with some ridiculously awesome hobbies and is quite fair- I got a Campy NR FD from him once that didn't fit the frame I needed it for, he actually mailed me a second that fit, trusting I'd sent it back! ... sucker. Hahahahahaha! Just kidding. I mailed the original back ASAP.
I know I'm forgetting people, have rotharpunc and I done business? Oh. Yep. I owe him money. (fail)
MiamiJim helped me with some componets- toe clips, as a matter of fact, very willing to help.
Everyone on this forum has been a great help and a lot of fun to talk to... And again, I'm sorry to the people whom I've forgotten to list!

BF members have traded fairly and generally quicker to me than I can get things out.
If there's a weak link in the transaction, it's been me. I can't list them all, but everyone's been great.
With a couple of you guys, we need a permanent mailer: your address on one side, mine on the other, and we can write "To" and "From" with a grease pencil.
My bikes are more BF parts than anything else.

Actualy one of the guys Paypal'd me out of the blue so its only 1 member that owes me money. M'fckr has a brand new, never ridden pair of carbon fiber soled Shimano shoes plus 2 sets of cleats. Is $40 plus $10 for shipping to much to ask for $230 worth of goods?
I swear, if I'm ever in his neck of the woods I'm going to put a big, huge knobby tire on my mountain bike and skid all the way across his lawn.

I just completed a transaction with 23skidoo for a Ted Williams Free Spirit (built with butted 531) he shippped the bike very quickly, and it was packaged very well.
We negotiated a bit since I couldn't quite afford his asking price and didn't want/need some components on the bike, and he was reasoonable, and a real pleasure to deal with.

Oh yea, I remember that. It was going to be part of multi level deal stretching over a few members and several states. One of the parties wanted a Wrights. P.S.: For those curious, 4,982 PM's in a .TXT file equals a measly 4.87mb. Last trade I see that we did was 2007-02-26, for a Campag Victory RD.
I have been very pleased with forum members in general. I have had pleasant trading experiences with all of the following, and it's probably not a complete list:

In some cases I felt like I came out ahead (sorry, Robbie!); in others, maybe not so much, but I'm not complaining. By the way, unworthy1, I know: I owe you a couple TA dustcaps, which have been holding their breath a long time now; but next time they come up for air, I'm grabbing them and mailing them!
As I said, all experiences pleasant. But I have to give a particularly loud shout of praise to JunkYardBike, for his assistance in acquiring my Norman Rapide (http://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.php?p=9041526&postcount=1).

That was the one and only trade, I think. Has it been that long? Damn. I mostly ride vintage frames with modern drivetrains now, so I really don't have use for vintage parts anymore except for flip bikes. And those typically get meat-and-potatoes hardware like Suntour and Shimano.
However, I'm always looking for 100mm Cinelli stems (3ttt and Modelo, too) and Cinelli bars that have at least one groove and are larger than 40cm. Got any modern 10 speed Campy triple parts laying about? :)

Going down all the current lists, I can happily agree to at least 75% of the names on those lists, and will probably get around to buying/selling/trading something with the remainder one of these days.
Especially huge thanks to all those who happily blessed me with your Helicomatic "junk" - all of which has been cleaned, refurbished, and some of it is back on the road. Two road bikes based around them as we speak with three more sets of wheels planned for this fall/winter.
This is definitely one of the most honorable bunches I've dealt with in quite a while. A sense of honor that puts most of the motorcycle clubs I've ridden with/belonged to/been around to shame.
