Northern California - What to Drop my Stimulus Check on?

My stimulus check is on its way and I've decided to be a good American by passing it over to the LBS instead of paying off some debt. I'm looking for a good road bike for mainly exercise and occasionally for my commute. But I have a commuter rig that I will continue to use full time for that purpose. Right now, I have my eyes set on a Trek 2.1. It felt really nice on the test ride. I don't have too many criteria other than carbon fork/seat stays, lightweight, ~$1500. I was hoping if anyone out there had any other recommendations before I pulled the trigger on this.

If you're set on the Trek go for it, if you'd like to shop around a bit, I'd definitely take a look for 08 models aswell. For the pricepoint you could try looking at reasonably spec'd Specialized Allez or Cannondale CAAD9.

Yea, I'm getting the stimulus check from last year... or something like that. I don't understand taxes all that much, so I'm going off of what TurboTax is telling me. haha. Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'll research them further, after the depression of the Sharks blowing it in the playoffs again passes by. :P

We're getting a first-time homebuyer stimulus (apparently my clock resets after 3 years of renting :D) but we are only getting a small fraction of the maximum amount. :rolleyes:
