I know, silly question. It seems like riding a Unicycle would make for awesome balance and bike handling for your good ol' two wheeler. Maybe I'll try one out... maybe I'll change my nickname to on1wheel

Yepper, been riding one off and on for about 25 years or so.
It's a lot of fun, and it certainly can't hurt your balance.
Gives you great reflexes for potential crashes too.
Great for riding to class in college as well, if you don't mind the funny looks ;)

I rode a uni for many years, though I don't own one now (unfortunately!). They are great for core stability as you are mostly using your upper body to keep your balance. I also used to play unicycle hockey and I tell you, 20 minutes of that on a hot day would have you wringing out your t-shirt!

It takes a little while to learn to ride a uni from scratch though. You won't master it in a day, so be prepared to perservere. The good news is that you're unlikely to hurt yourself while learning. When falling off a uni, most of the time you will land on your feet (as the unicycle kind of slips out from underneath you). It's only if you fall sideways that you might take a tumble.

I learnt by buying a uni so I was committed :-D I think if I had not just gone and bought one I might have been put off, but having invested money in it I HAD to make it work ;-)

Good luck if you go for it. It's definitely one of the more fun methods of personal transportation I've ever found.

Yes, I own an old Schwinn...although I don't ride it nearly as much as I should.

My buddies and I were offroading Unis back in the 70s. I still have it, but don't really ride it anymore.
